First time staying on site. How is the best way to use the phones? Any charges, etc? On our other vacations, we would use a pre-paid calling card to do our calling home. Any suggestions appreciated.

If you have a cell phone plan that won't charge you LD/Roaming use it. Otherwise pre-paid phone cards (COSTCO, Sams Club and BJs) are they way to go.

We just returned from Movies and all calls within WDW (to other resorts etc) are no charge but they did say that any other local or long distance calls would carry a hefty charge. So, yes, a calling card would be a good idea.

Local calls are 75 cents. I agree about the calling card. Great way to save money.

We took phone cards last time. They are great for in the room. However, when we tried to use our phone card from inside Magic Kingdom there was still going to be a fee.

Whenever I have used my AT&T calling card from my Disney resort room there has been a phone call fee tacked onto my room bill. I believe it is 50 or 75 cents. Most of the time I will use the pay phone in the lobby. I am charged a 4 minute "fee" on my calling card but it works out to much less than the resort fee.

Hi, Aprille!

Looks like we will be there about the same time! That funny, sweet man who works at the Saturn Dealership (my DH) told me to look you up on here :) He says you are as goofy as I am!

Yes, we just returned from a trip and the phone charge each call is $.75 from a resort hotel. We have free roaming, so our cell phones are a life saver.

Hey, now - I resemble that remark. :p ;) I sent you a PM.

And to keep this on topic - if you don't have a cell phone with no roaming charges like nonnymouse, a calling card is still a good way to go. Just be aware that there is a charge if you use it from your room. It's better to use a pay phone.

Almost all pay phones everywhere impose a per call fee of about 30 to 50 cents which shows up as an extra docking of minutes when you use a prepaid calling card. Most hotel room phones impose a larger fee per local or 800 call.

For ordinary (business) 800 calls the recipient pays the 30 to 50 cents fee when the caller uses a pay phone.

Tired of telemarketers? Go to a pay phone and call their 800 number and then give them your complaint.

When using my AT&T calling card on a pay phone I am only docked 4 minutes (which I stated in my original reply to this thread). The 4 minute "fee" for using a pay phone amounts to less than 15 cents.

When my mom and I stayed at ASMO in November, we just used the payphones in the lobby and called home with a special "call me card". Hey, we got our excersise walking to and from the room, and it gave us an excuse to refil our mugs on the way, plus it saved us money on long distance charges.
