Came back a few weeks ago from nice stay at BCV's. This time we spent more time in the room as it was colder than usual. We have four laptops and could only use one at a time! There is only one connection in a 2 bedroom villa! Time to think about going wireless or at least have connections in more than one location. We went crazy. :surfweb::surfweb::surfweb:

I think most folks just bring a wireless router from home. They make travel-sized routers that are not much bigger than a deck of cards (the Apple Airport Express, for example), and are easy to toss in a suitcase.

How does that work? Sorry for not understanding this. I asked the front desk and they said we could only use 1 computer with no other suggestions. I would have been happy to have gone and bought one in Orlando if they told me.

Any talk of Disney going wireless?

For example....we have one internet hookup in our house. So we bought a netgear wireless router, and hooked THAT up into our internet hookup. Then we set up our computers to talk to that router, and so I'm sitting one room away from the internet hookup, only connected to the power strip, using wireless. We have had me, DH, and my brother online all at once, despite only having that one plug for internet, because of the Netgear router.

Just bring along a wireless router and plug it into the Ethernet port. Easy as pie.

I brought my Linksys from home last month. My friend and I were online at the same time. Since my laptop was already configured for it, it picked right up. I gave my friend my signal name and password and she hooked right up.

Wireless router - another indispensable item left in our Owner's Locker. It is nice with the laptops, ipod touches etc...:thumbsup2

Exactly! Our wireless router is in our OL so we can both be on our laptops.
Gotta love it!

We bought a wireless router and have left it in our Owner's Locker as well. We knew with DS1 coming with us this past Christmas (who is permanently hooked to his Macbook) it would be a necessity for all our sakes. We had three of us using it at any one time.

So, a dedicated 2BR has only 1 connection. I assume a lockoff would have 2. Is that correct?

Our two bed lock-off at BCV had two internet connections; one in the main living area and one in the studio bedroom. Our dedicated 2 bed at OKW had two connections; both in the lounge area. In August only one of these worked however, both worked in December.

FWIW, the VGC are wireless. We had 4 laptops going when we were in a 2 bdrm dedicated villa in December. All the hotels at the DLR are now wireless so that is probably the reason.

Not to hijack this thread, but is the wired internet access still complimentary for DVC members?

Yes, wired internet is still free for DVC members staying on points.

We had a dedicated two-bedroom and the wired connection in the studio portion did not work--and I was told it doesn't even have wiring (does that even make sense?) I called my guide--furious--as I needed to work and the only connection was in the Master Bedroom--which my Mom was using since it was a handicapped accessible unit and that's where the handicapped bathroom was. The front desk's only suggestion was that they would pay for a cab to take me to a local internet cafe where wireless was free! Uh--thanks a lot!

I then went and bought a wireless router, but had some issues (it didn't always work with the type of documents I had to work on). When I was trying to do work--called the IT people at Disney and was told "wireless routers were not allowed." Uh, yeah Disney--someone want to tell me why=--is it because other people might be able to access the internet for free who would otherwise have to pay? I ended up having to kick Mom out of the master bedroom for several hours a day.

As much as DVC may have come into the new century they still have a ways to go. I just stayed at a Marriott timeshare and could get wireless internet anywhere--always worked properly, no connection issues. Wish I could say the same for DVC.
