Using home resort as barometer?

Do you ever use your home resort as a barometer for availability for other resorts? For example, we own at VWL and are looking to stay in a 2BR at one of the EPCOT resorts in Dec. I would think that the VWL would harder to get in Dec. So since my dates are available at VWL, I think that this is a pretty good indicator that my dates could be available at an EPCOT resort.

I realize that there is nothing guaranteed about this, but it is fun and builds up the anticipation.

Also, I've been checking as far as I can on the EPCOT resorts and have noticed that there is significantly better availability at the BCV than at the BWV for a 2BR (not just the standard views). Is that typical? I would think that with BWV being much smaller, it would book up much faster. Does the 2BR make a difference?

Oh the joys of the online booking system!

Some resorts are more popular than others and their popularity shifts withe the calendar. Size and location are big factors and as we know, DVC has very few empty rooms.

Depends on what you have to measure with. Since pratically anything at SSR is open even two months before a date, an SSR owner can hardly make the comparisons. We own at BWV and AKV and they provide ideal comparisons for what might be available at 7 months out. If AKV value is gone, you can be certain that BLT standard is gone. Likewise if BWV boardwalk and standard are gone, you can be fairly certain that BLT MK view is gone ) and if all of BWV is gone including pool and garden view before 7 months, you are likley not going to find anything at BLT or BCV although there is still a chance at VWL which I have found to be open at 7 months out far more often than was previously believed before we could do on-line reserving (i.e., because of what I have seen at 7 months out, I do not consider VWL to be something that can be used to predict other resorts).

That said, based on what I know about Dec (truly one of the highest demand times of the year) and BWV, I believe you are going to be SOL in December for what you want at BWV or BCV (also it is BCV not BWV that is the smaller resort) except for dates in the middle of the month and I have doubts those will still be around come the 7 month window.

What week are you looking at? The first full week of December sells out early at BWV.

Never. We've been members for nearly 15 years now and know timeframes and resort popularity pretty good now. Anything new will book of the soonest. BWV and BCV will book up for F&W and summer time.

Everything will book up for Thanksgiving, Christmas week and the first week of December around 10 to 11 months out.

Two bedrooms at BWV are all lockoffs. No dedicated. BCV has dedicated two bedroom villas, but only 25 with two queen beds in the second bedroom.

I just booked the first week of Dec at VWL with no issues and that was at just about 7.5 months out!:banana:
