As for me, Is it ok if I use and rely on the Google Translate app, especially to interact with people who don't know English or who only know very limited English? I am on the Autism Spectrum, and I am absolutely terrible in language and only monolingual in English and based on what I have heard, if I attempt Spanish or any other language and I do an absolutely terrible job at it such as completely mis-pronouncing words, using incorrect grammar, stutter, and to their ears, is the absolute worst Spanish they heard, I am frightened that they will see me as someone who is offensive and mocking their culture and are extremely unforgiving of that. This is one of my biggest fears attempting to speak another language and is definitely one reason why I cannot learn another language. I feel like it would be best for me just to stay with only speaking English and using Google Translate

Absolutely that's fine. I have conversed with both Polish speaking and also Spanish speaking people that way. You'll do great, NGA!!

There are very few places in Miami where they don't speak at the least serviceable English. If you encounter someone who doesn't, there will be someone nearby who does. We live in the Miami area & none of us speak Spanish. It has never been a problem. This isn't something you need to worry about. I hope you enjoy your trip.

My son went to college in Miami (we're in California). He never encountered a situation where he needed to speak Spanish, nor did we when we went to visit. If you do need to use a few Spanish words, Google translate is a good resource. My other son is also on the autism spectrum, so I completely understand why this might make you anxious. Don't worry. I think you'll be just fine!

I wouldn't worry about the Google translate thing, even people in Miami who speak Spanish usually understand English. Just be polite and have a good time!

I was hesitant to say it, but I was wondering when it became necessary to speak any language other than English in an the US. Helpful in some situations I get. But necessary, no.
