Using Gift Cards to Pay

Where do y’all get the gift cards? Is there a special deal on them some places?
We get ours from Target with our Target red card so we basically get 5% off of our whole Disney trip. It adds up pretty quick. We buy them and then put them online on Disney's gift card website. I then put them all on one card on that website so I only have to carry around one card.

I get my GC's at Sam's Club for a few reasons. One, they have a discount on them and two, I like getting them in the $500 denominations they offer. I also get 2% cash back on my credit card purchases, which we apply to our trip too. Last summer when we went, I went to Sam's about 2 or 3 days before we had to pay off our balance on our trip. I purchased 12-$500 gift cards, paid off our trip and we had about $1200 left, which we used for dining. I had $700 on GC's and my wife had the other $500 on a GC. We used these for our meals and did not even spend that out in our 8 day trip (only had 3 TS meals). I told everyone to order what they wanted, have any snack they wanted, etc and we would pay with GC's vs doing the DDP. In the end, it worked out well and not having the DDP saved us a lot as my family of 4 are all over the age of 10.

I save 19% on mine by buying them at Kroger. I do it when my Chase Freedom has 5% cashback at grocery stores (April-June this year) and when Kroger has a 4X fuel points special. On a $1000 purchase, I will get $50 cashback from Chase plus $140 in free gas. I put the $140 I save on gas toward paying for the GC.

I'm glad to see this thread. I usually charge to the room and pay off the night before checkout. But when I take my whole family or when my DH and I start going for longer trips (thus spending more money), I'll make sure to pay periodically throughout our stay to avoid a CC charge.

Do you get a deal on them?

It has been a few years so don’t quite recall but I think if the site was offering a discount if you spent a certain amount we got it. I definitely remember free shipping.

FYI: Before you could combined gift cards, I left mine at 50's PT after a meal with my TiW card. It had about $1200 on it. I got lucky and was able to pick it up at the Lost and Found by TTC the next day when I realized it was missing. I was leery about using the gift cards after that until they started letting you move the funds from one card to another.[/QUOTE]

Yes! Bring a back up card to transfer in case anything happens. We just went the end of January and my daughter ran in to Les Halles with the gift card to get some goodies. I guess she was too preoccupied with the baked goods to realize when she threw the receipt away she tossed the gift card too!

Luckily I was able to hop on the Disney gift card site and transfer the money over to my back up card right away. There was still over $500 on it! After that even though she is 20 years old, i had her and my other dd use the magic bands and I just paid off the charges when we got back to the resort.

I bought $1000.00 worth of gift cards (unfortunately in $50 increments, that was all that was left.) at my local gas station. They had a promo for 20 cents off a gallon of gas for each $50 gift card you bought. I used my "gas" credit card that gives me 4% back on gas or purchases made at gas stations. So just by spending the money upfront I estimate that I saved $ 90 total.
