A friend is going to try and reserve a room for me using her points. Does this mean she would also have to reserve the ME and add the dining plan or can I call and do that after it's booked and I have the confirmation # ?
TIA

Your friend will have to reserve the dining plan for you and it must be paid for at the time the reservation is made. This (payment) can be done a number of ways. As far as ME is concerned, she will need to call Member Services and give them your flight info. in order to book ME.
You cannot call MS on your own. I hope this helps.

The nice thing is that your friend should be able to do all of these transactions online. I recently helped someone use a friends points (I am an associate on the account) and he gave me his CC info and I was able to arrange for the dining plan using the vacation center on the member website. You have to add the dining plan at least 48 hours prior to arrival, although I think it would be better to arrange for it at least a week before arrival if doing it online. I have no idea how the DDP transaction is processed on the DVC end.

DME can also be done online.

Wow, thanks for bringing this up OP.

Since we usually go to DLR, it hadn't even occurred to me about ME.

I own, but am staying on other members' points that we swapped reservations for my trip to the World this winter. Won't be doing the dining plan but will be using ME on the way in on the first week's reservation and out on the second. Can I sign up for ME on the DVC website with the res # if the reservation is made under somebody else's points? Or do I need to have them do it? I'm guessing the latter ...

It seems we have to leave it to the DVC owner to make the reservations. I feel terrible, like I'm going to hound my friend because I like to have control over this and I feel like I'm handing my control over!

I'm sure everything will be fine...it's just the over thinker in me.

The points used for the trip aren't yours. The member who owns those points has to make requests, etc for the trip.

This doesn't mean she has to make my dining reservations, does it? I just don't want this to be a hassle for her.

It is a quick and easy reservation for her to set up and since she is a friend it will be her pleasure:)
The only issue that you will have is how to pay for the Dining Plan since it needs to be paid in full when the reservation is made. There are several options: 1) give her your credit card number 2) make a three way call to Member Services 3) give her a check/cash and then she can make the reservation 4) have her put it on her credit card and then you can reimburse her later.
I have always done #4 with friends.

I'm sure she will use her CC and I will write her a check for the amount. Or whichever way is easiest for her.
Will I still be able to make my ADR's or does she have to do this as well for all my meals? :confused3

ADR's are separate and these you make for yourself.

I think dining can be added up to 48 hours before the check in date and does not have to be added when the reservation is made.

but remember that the DDP needs to be added 48 hrs in advance by the member, so be sure to give them enough lead time to be able to call in for you...
