Using DW app with teens

I need a Disney app expert to tell me the best way to do this with a teen. My 15-year-old son is going to DW with the marching band so we turned it into a family trip - however, he will be staying off-site with the band, except for the last few nights when the band leaves and he joins us at AKL. He will mostly be walking around with his friends, but I have included him in a few meal reservations in case he wants to meet up with us. I’m also wondering if I could get him a few lightning lanes with us, which seems more complicated because I can book ours before his since we are staying on-site. But assuming I could pull it off, would it be best for him to have his own account on the app? Right now he has a profile connected to us, but is that sufficient? Can he still do mobile ordering and buy things without having his own payment card uploaded? He does have his own bank account so I’m wondering if it would be best for him to link to that to spend his own money…just not sure what all he can or can’t do with his profile the way it is currently.

What are you calling a profile? Either you manage him under your MDE Account or he has his own MDE Account that may be linked to your MDE Account as a Family & Friends contact.

If he has his own MDE Account then he can use Mobile Ordering and payments but there needs to be a payment method loaded to his MDE Account.

That is up to you, and him to work out. Your answer to my first question will make it clearer. He will either need his own MDE account and both of you will need to add each other to your MDE Family & Friends list or login in to your MDE account from his smartphone (I don't recommend this option).

Yes you can book LL selections for him but you can't do it at the 7 day before arrival unless you add him to your room. I would recommend this option unless you would be over room capacity. What type of ticket will he have, and are did you book a Disney Package for your on-site stay?

Piggy back question: if my kids are currently managed under me because they are too young to have their own MDE, what is the process where they can claim ownership of those profiles when they come of age?

Their MBs are linked there, so I can't just have them create their own accounts and start fresh. It's it create their own and then contact IT to merge?

They need to create their own account and then it's probably just easier to have IT merge them. I had an issue with my husband's account once upon a time and ended up creating a managed account for him to complete the hotel reservation and just had IT link the two.

Why not add him to your reservation? Usually you can add someone for minimal cost if there is room, unless you also have a dining package (or a package with tickets) booked.

DH was managed under my MDE and when he created an account his MB went with it. I can’t update or link his MB on my account. I can make plans for him (we are linked in friends and family and can view and book) and plans he makes (like ADRs) can’t be edited by me.

Just have your son create his own account (I can’t get my 17 year old to do it either, she’d rather just use my account/phone).

They might have to create a new account but if you create a play disney one they might not have to.

DS was under 13 and we created an account for play disney for the star wars thing that way DS could be logged in to play the games but could make room charges without our consent or other MDE things.

Once DS turned 13 IT was able to get DS his own account based on the play disney one.
