Using DVC points at Paradise Pier or Disneyland Hotel

I am looking to rent points and then make a reservation at a Disneyland hotel. I know I can't get VGC but I read that you can use points at Paradise Pier and Disneyland Hotel. Can someone tell me how to calculate the points needed to stay at either of these hotels? Thanks!

I think you will be hard pressed to find a points rental for the Disneyland Hotel. Only people with direct points (or resale before 2011) can book those exchanges, and it's fairly expensive - the cheapest rooms in the cheapest time periods start at 35 points/night and go up from there.

If it's not a DVC property, it's generally not a good DVC point rental prospect.

It would be cheaper for you to book a cash reservation directly with Paradise Pier and Disneyland Hotel. The amount of points required from a member is too high to make it worthwhile.

We used points a few years back at Disneyland Hotel for a summer vacation. We split 5 days at DL Hotel and paid cash for 5 nights at the Sheraton Anaheim Resort. It was an expensive use of points as others have mentioned. We had a pool view room and I think we spent about 250 or 270 points for 5 non-weekend days. We did enjoy it a lot. In fact my kids still talk about the DL Hotel as their favorite Disney resort experience. It just lucked out we had some extra points to spend that year, and couldn't get into the DVC resort at the Grand California.

Yeah...i would agree that the use of points here is really not cost effective...you would be better off renting your points and making a cash ressie

I think the OP was looking to rent points to stay at one of those two resorts. It's not cost effective either way.

Can you help us understand your thoughts about why you want to do it this way rather than just pay cash? Seems extra complicated and more expensive but maybe we’re missing something.

I think the OP thought that using DVC points would always be cheaper than booking directly and has since learned that using DVC points for non-DVC villas is a poor use of points. Sometimes you really want to use your points and it doesn't matter how many points you use for that non-DVC room to some people.

I was wondering that but I think they were asking to rent points and then turn them into rooms-I can see if you have excess points you can’t otherwise use, but couldn’t come up with a scenario in which doing it this way worked.

Aren’t you and deb&bill saying the same thing?

I'm planning a trip for October to DL, Oct 14 to 19 (Sun to Fri). I had hoped to get a VGC studio but with less than 2 weeks to go to 7 months, Monday and Thursday are soldout. A studio would have been 100 points. Looked at a 1 bedroom which is currently available, 195 points. Not worth it when it looks like I will be staying by myself (friend needs a separate room with her son). PPH standard view on points would be 170 points. I decided to book PPH cash and waitlist the studio, knowing I have like a .1% chance of getting it. I may rent the 100 points to help cover the cost.
