Quick background, we know Disney but never stayed DVC before. Had been wanting to try it for the last few years we decided to go for it. I was given some not so great advice by a friend who had always stayed DVC by telling us to wait for the 7 month mark to reserve. You can imagine we were able to secure nothing and had to postpone and try again a year later.

So now we are getting close to the 11 month mark and we are still very nervous about hitting the wall again with all that I have read. Maybe someone here can guide me on how the best way would be to get our reservations.

First, I think we would be using the DVC store. I have talked to them multiple times and they have been very helpful. Its the length of stay that seems to throw things off for us. We would be staying for 12 nights

I guess the main question would be how to book the reservations to give us the best opportunity to actually get them. Since we can book exactly on the 11 month mark and they can only book for 7 days out, they give me these options....

1. Try to book the entire stay but wait 5 days past the 11 month mark to do it.

2. Book a 7 night stay, then a 5 night stay (both being done at the 11 month mark on each res)

3. Book a 5 night stay, then a 7 night stay (both being done at the 11 month mark on each res)

The places we would want to stay are of course popular and need to be done right away. CCV, BLT, BWV. We dont care if we have to split up the trip and stay in two places.

Any help or guidance is appreciated. We are looking before Thanksgiving next year

Book right at 11 months but when it comes to BLT and BWV don't plan on getting standard view. If you plan on BLT Lakeview or BWV Pool/Garden View then you can just wait and book the 12 nights at once.

Are you renting the points? Since you are talking with the "DVC Store".
The member you rent the points from will have to book the 7 nights at the 11 month mark and then modify the reservation each day to add on to the reservation until the 12 nights are booked.

Not sure hownthe dvc store works...only used Daves. But you should book with them more than 11 months out so the owner would then be able to book at the 11month mark..if your looking at more than one resort it will probably be 2 different owners booking

I haven't heard of dvc store. But, I have previously rented my points out through David's with excellent results. The issue in getting a successful rental is going to a broker who can hook you up with owners who want to rent points. At this point, the number of potential renters greatly exceeds the number of owners wanting to rent their points.

You shouldn't have a whole lot of problems booking 12 nights at BLT in lake view at 11 months. You may have issues attempting to get BLT standard view unless you are lined up with an owner who is ready to book you at exactly 11 months.

After reading your post it’s not entirely clear if you want to rent or buy.

If renting then the broker would need a member which want to rent out their points. The current 11 month booking can be though for standard view at BLT and BwV. Those you shouldn’t expect to get and not for 12 days. Maybe you could get some of the nights for a split stay.

When renting the broker will ask the member(assuming he have one) to secure first 7 nights and then each day add 1 more night until he have 12 nights total.

If you are buying then you first need to find a contract and by the time you find one and get everything in your name we are in mid February or maybe even late February.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I should have stated we are looking for the studios which at this point seems next to impossible unless I am directly talking with a DVC member. The DVC Rental Store is another recommended site like Davids. Ive seen it mentioned here quite a bit. Davids charges less per point but being based in Canada my credit card/bank would hit me with a 3% fee which doesnt happen if I go with the DVC Rental Store. Unfortunately the only people I know that are DVC members use all their points.

Mort, are you saying that Davids would actually work with a member to keep adding days to my trip? That would be fantastic but I can't imagine them doing that. I know that some DVC members "walk reservations" (didn't know what that meant until today) to secure the dates they want. But it would be impossible to do as a renter unless the member does it for you.

Thanks again

Edit to add yes renting not buying. Saw your post after I submitted my last one

I had assumed a studio when I mentioned what would be available. As long as the broker has points available those studios will be easy to get.

Thanks Jetsdad (and everyone) Going to try and do the split to put both res's right at the 11 month mark and hope for the best.

A rental agent won't walk a reservation. The add a day reference is that a DVC owner can only book 7 days at 11 months.

Knowing exactly what days would be helpful. Will your trip cross over Thanksgiving? Or will it hit Jersey week? Or even Wine and Dine race?

For the most part I think you'd be ok waiting to have all 12 nights booked as long as BLT lakeview or BWV pool/garden view are ok. Those are the ones you will be most likely to get anyway for those dates so I'd hope that is what you are expecting. If you do put in for either 7 night reservation and a 5 night reservation or vice versa then if it ends up at the same resort you can request to stay in the same room and most likely that will be accommodated. Booking the 7 and the 5 nights will be the safest to get at one of those resorts.
