Using DVA funds on board

Is it possible to pay for things such as excursions, gift shop purchases, and gratuities using DVA funds? If so, do I do this through guest services while on the ship, or at the dock when we check in? Then, if we spend $1000, how do we go about getting the $20 Disney gift card? Thanks!

I called DCL at 800-511-9333 and was able to apply an onboard credit to my account using my DVA.

Yes, we did this on the last cruise, but as the above poster says, you need to call in advance and have the funds applies to your onboard account. If you over-estimate, the money will go back to your DVA. (It takes awhile, though. It took over a week to come back into the account when we returned home.)

I paid off my cruise and loaded up my onboard account early enough that I was able to request a card prior to departing for our trip.

i did it a week before our cruise.

We pre-loaded our onboard acct with DVA funds. This was nice Bc our credit card identified the payments into DVA as "travel expenses" for which we received extra bonuses (just how that card was set up). We requested our bonus money from DVA to arrive before our trip, it came as a gift card which we brought with us to use. As it turns out, we put too much money into our onboard acct and the money went back to DVA. In addition, we still has the bonus gc. We could have gotten a refund from the DVA, but temptation won out (along with a fall special), and DD and I went to Disneyland in CA to use up the extra funds.
