Using Duct Tape in your Stateroom?

Just a thought, and I mean no harm in making this comment. If you are goingto take duck tape and a garabge bag (as I read somewhere on the boards) to cover your porthole why pay for a ocean view room? It seems like you would have more money and deal with less hassel with taping garabge bags to the walls with duct tape if you just bought an inside stateroom? Just my 2 cents, please don't take it the wrong way.....

I'll jump in on this one....I want a verandah to see out when I want to see out, which is when I'm awake. I like to sleep in the dark. Having an outside cabin of any type is like sleeping in Las Vegas, its NEVER completely dark. All the lights on the outside of the ship shine all night long, even when they are dimmed, its still much brighter than my bedroom. I'd love to be able to sleep without my sleep mask, but I don't want to bother with the garbage bags and duct tape!

So, having an outside cabin and covering the window makes perfect sense to me!!!

I am a professional stagehand and have to say it. To avoid sticky residue use GAFF TAPE.

It is available at all theatrical and film supply stores. It comes in a variety of decorative colors now, not just black. It is rather expensive (about $13 per roll) but leaves no residue because it is designed to, temporarily, tape down cables for film shoots, theatre and events. SPIKE TAPE is a narrower tape with the same qualities.

Duct tape was designed for permanently taping leaks in ductwork. :bitelip:

Just a quick question about an unwanted upgrade- if you book an inside room and get upgraded, can't you decline it? I'm sure that someone out there would accept it if you declined it, right?

Thanks Kelli-I knew someone out there would get it! I can live with the light, but when my 4 year old sees it, she's up for good. She's actually quiet and does not disturb anyone else, however if we go to bed late (like on a curise-late seating)she ends up with no sleep and completely messed up for the day. She's already a little grump when she gets her sleep!

Once your upgraded, that's it. Someone else has your cabin. I could have raised a stink I guess, but that's just not my personality. I packed accordingly and was glad I did.

I am now jumping off this thread as I can't believe it was started in the first place and really can't believe it has gone on this long. If you think duct tape is bad-don't use it-as for the rest of us, there's nothing you can do about it so let it go...

Wow, I'm sorry you "can't believe it was started in the first place", but we are permitted to ask questions, so I did.

You see, I am hoping for a stateroom with a window but don't want to risk marking up DCL's staterooms, so I wanted to see how the rest of the people on this board dealt with the tape issue.
