Using Disney Visa via Magic Bands

I just got a Disney Visa Card. I know that there are sometimes discounts in the stores and restaurants throughout the park if you use your Disney Visa.

I know that you can attach a credit card to your reservation to be used as room charges and charges on your MB. If you attach your Disney Visa to your room/MB will they know it is a Disney Visa and you will be able to get the discounts, or do you need to carry the actual card with you to get the discounts.

Thanks

Thank you for the feedback. That's what I was afraid of. Just disappointing when the magic bands were supposed give you the freedom of not carrying CC.

It is disappointing. It seems to me that that would be a simple thing to solve. I would think that if at check in they made note that it was a Disney Visa or AP(or other discounts), that they would have some code that gave you a discount at the appropriate places. I'm a programmer and cant see it would be that hard to include some kind of code that would allow appropriate discounts thought out Disney. Hopefully in time they will phase it in later. Just appears to be a bad design in the first place.

I was just there a couple weeks ago. You do have to show the card, or the Disney Visa Rewards redemption card (and photo id if the CM is picky). Once you do that they will give you the discount but you can still tap your magic band and charge the new discounted rate to your room.

I did this because I was using Disney Gift Cards to pay for my purchases, so by charging on my magic band I was able to pay for my charges in one lump sum at the resort using my gift card.

It does seem like a simple bit of programming to create a function to check to see if the card tied to the Magic Band is a Disney Visa and then have the register automatically deduct the discount.

That's why it will probably never be implemented.

For us it's a small matter to show a card before we make a purchase. Chances are that more functions will be added to the MBs as they get past the initial rollout. If it happens it would be convenient. In the meanwhile we're just enjoying using the bands as they are.

Let's face it. First we need the band to work 100% of the time before we go uncommenting the lines of code that activate the visa discount routine, then we can test the discount routine to make sure we are not giving out discounts to the wrong people or to people who have spent 49.99 or less
