Using Disney Visa to Purchase DVC

Is everyone seeing reward points on just the first $2500 or the entire charge?

You should get reward points on the entire purchase. The only piece I have read is that there is a yearly limit on what you can earn. Since I have never gotten up to that full amount (I believe it is $750 a year), I don't know for sure if this is true or not.

It sounds like, though, that there is a lot of inconsistency in how they decide to give the 0% no interest. I have been fortunate enough to get all my purchase to qualify (even with the charges being billed by Disney Escrow) and others have not.

When I put the purchase on the card, I was expecting to pay it off the following month, but when it qualified I didn't. I don't think anyone should chance doing it if they don't have the means to do that.

They will give you credit for everything you charge not just the down payment.

We bought back a few months ago for a total of 460 points (5 contracts) and our guide let me put one contract on my visa at a time, then I would get on line and pay off that balance and a few days later call her back and pay off another contract and so on. It took me about 2-3 weeks to pay off all the contracts and on the last one I just didn't pay it so that it fell into the 6 months no interest special.

Thanks for this helpful thread - explaining exactly how to use the promotion. We're looking to add on in the near future, probably thru Disney, so this is great.

I did the same thing as you. I just looked at my statement and see the same type of statement postings you describe. Foolishly, I paid an extra $1300 last statement. I did this just a few days ago. I quess I will just have to "suck it up" and pay the balance next month. I feel sorry for you and sorry that my statement wasn't a few days later. I would have saved that $1300 for the part of the bill that wasn't deferred!

My new statement just came and guess what? I still have the promo for the 6 months interest free on the new amount posted. This amount definitely went through their accounting to be added on. I was VERY pleased to see that I have more time. I thought that this month, things would be tight. So far, all the payments that I made on my Disney Visa have been interest free like Sandi's.:yay:

Will Disney let you use any visa for a DVC purchase, or just a Disney visa? As Canadians, we are not able to apply for a Disney visa.

Yes you can use any VISA, but the offer for the interest free is only for Disney VISA - it is a promotion from them.

Thank you so much for the reply. We are planning a trip to DLR in November, and as Albertans, we have to purchase DVC while we are down there, so I need to get all my ducks in a row.

FYI - It is on the first $5000 now. And VCG has a 500 reward point bonus supposedly. I will confirm the reward bonus when I see it.

We were only allowed by DVC to pay up to $2500 on the Disney Visa. We financed the rest by you cannot pay via Disney Visa for the payments. You can go into the payment portion of the DVC website and pay extra payments with your Visa. We financed just to be able to put the rest of the purchase on our Visa and get the points. We paid it off via our DIsney Visa after a few regularly scheduled payments. Worked out well for us. We had the money but wanted the rewards points. It cost us a few dollars in interest but it was worth it for the reward points.

Here's the card fine print taken from the visa site today (emphasis mine):

5 Developer financing approval is not guaranteed. See the Disney Vacation Club Public Offering Statement for important information. If you use your Disney Rewards Visa Card on the purchase of a real estate interest in a select Disney Vacation Club Resort equal to a 160 or more vacation point Master Contract or a 100 or more vacation point Add On, the Daily Periodic Rate for the first 6 billing cycles following the date of the purchase is a promotional fixed APR of 0% provided that no payment on your account is past due at the time of purchase. The rate will apply to that portion of your purchase charged to your Disney Rewards Visa Card up to $5,000. After this promotional period, the applicable APR for purchases specified in your Cardmember Agreement will take effect on any Disney Vacation Club purchase balance remaining on your Disney Rewards Visa Card account. This 0% APR does not apply to Disney Vacation Club purchases made using any checks that access your account. Subject to these restrictions, use of your Disney Rewards Visa Card for the purchase of a real estate interest in a select Disney Vacation Club Resort equal to a 160 or more vacation point Master Contract or a 100 or more vacation point Add On is subject to the same terms and conditions, including rate and fees, as qualified Disney vacation package purchases. See your Cardmember Agreement for APR details. Offer subject to change or cancellation without notice. Restrictions apply.

That is strange that Disney told you that you could not put more than that on the Visa.

I did a 130 point BLT contract in April and another 50 point BLT add on in June and for both purchases, I paid for them in full with my Disney Visas. Not only did I get the reward points, but I got 6 months, 0% interest as well.

I also had that same experience. I bought in May 2007. I think there was a promotion for financing for 6 months, but I didn't bother with it. I put the whole purchase on 2 VISA cards. I put $15,000 on my Disney Visa and the rest on another rewards Visa. Of course, AFTER I did that... Chase increased my limit to accommodate large charges. Are they hinting that I should buy an add-on? I got the rewards from the Disney VISA and LLBean reward certificates for the other VISA... which I bought clothes for my trip of course. I don't understand why people are getting different answers. If you can fit the whole purchase on your Disney VISA.. why shouldn't you be able to do it? Some of us did... some couldn't .???:confused3

Yuck! I hate all this confusion. We are hoping to buy VGC while we are in DLR this November. I really want to use my Visa for the rewards, but I would have to pre-pay on it to up my credit enough to cover the purchase. Obviously, I don't want all this credit sitting on my card if I can't use it.

Since I am not a current DVC owner, and I live in Alberta, I can't get any information over the phone, so I will rely on the immense knowledge of the Disboarders to help me figure out what to do.

Keep the info. coming!
