Hey everyone! We are planning a trip to Disney early next year. We plan on possibly flying into Orlando, and then taking an Uber for a half day at Universal before we head to Animal Kingdom Lodge. Does anyone have any experience with using Disney Magic Express just for the luggage delivery service. In other words, is it possible to take Uber strait from the airport to Universal while our bags get directly shipped to our Disney hotel? Thanks!

I had called Disney once to ask a similar question. When our plane landed, we wanted to use Lyft to go directly to Disney Springs while DME took our luggage to the Poly as we were already checked in online. The CM said that in order for them to deliver the luggage, at least one of us (wife or myself) had to ride the bus. When I asked what would happen if nobody rode the bus, she couldn't (or wouldn't) answer with a definite answer. Only a "That's Disney's official position".

even if you could do this what is your plan for your carry on bags? are you really going to be okay with security unpacking your carry on for everyone to see?

not a problem...do it. they dont scan every bag and wait until a matching passenger checks in. It all gets tossed in a bin and the bins are dropped off at the resorts.

Eh, not quite that roughly ;)

Yellow-tagged luggage is pulled behind the scenes, between plane and terminal. It's transported to a warehouse at the airport, where it's sorted and placed in cages. The cages are transported to the resorts.

So it depends on what TYPE of luggage you are talking about.

CHECKED LUGGAGE - Anything checked with the yellow luggage flag on it will get scanned as it gets off the plane, sorted according to resort destination, and loaded onto a box truck for delivery to the assigned resort. These bags will get delivered to your resort whether you use DME to get there or not. But they won't be delivered to your room on arrival if you aren't checked in yet.

CARRY ON LUGGAGE - this cannot be brought to your resort on DME if you are not also on the bus. You'd have to bring it with you to US, stow it somewhere there, then bring it with you when you head to your resort later.

I frequently check my bags in the morning and have bell services hold my carry on, then take Lyft to airport for evening flight. Yeah, I know not exactly what you were asking.... FWIW I have TSA pre-check so I am through security in a flash and I don't need the giant time window DME provides.

This is leaving FOR the airport. OP is talking about coming in FROM the airport.
RAC at the resorts is not related to ME in any way shape or form.

Universal has (or at least did) have a luggage room you can check bags into at the park as a member of our touring party was leaving directly from Universal for the airport. He was able to check his full size suitcase before entering the parks.

Interesting. I am very glad WDW has no such thing.

They actually used to have luggage lockers at Epcot and MK. There were also lockers outside of HS until more recently (IIRC), but those got removed too. You CAN store your luggage for a couple of hours at disney Springs in the Guest Services building, but not long enough to do much other than shop and have a meal somewhere.

DS doesn't have security, so I'm not being held up while someone's entire suitcase is being emptied and searched.
