Using Disney Gift Cards

We will be staying at SSR during our upcoming trip in May. I want to charge EVERYTHING to the gift cards. What is the best strategy? My MDE app has a credit card attached to it and I don't think I can put a gift card on the MDE app. Do I need to go to the front desk every couple of days to pay my account (I really don't want to do that).

You cannot add GCs to your MDE account but you can use them to pay for Mobile Orders instead of using a credit card. You cannot store a GC for mobile ordering but there is a place for entering the ID number at check out.

If you don't want to visit the front desk to pay your room charges off every couple of days, then you have two choices.

The first, and probably the most hassle-free way, is to not charge anything to your room and pay with the GCs at the point of sale.

The second way would be to let the charges hit your credit card whenever you meet Disney's spending limit and then visit the front desk on check out day to have the charges reversed and pay with the GCs.

I find it easier to just use the GC at dining, etc in the parks. I always have my gc #s recorded and a zero balance card with me in case I lose the one with money, I can log into disneygiftcard.com and transfer the balance of the lost card.

Anything you charge with your MB will go to your bill at the resort. Many people go to the front desk every couple of days and pay that down with their GCs. I’ve read that waiting until checkout can result in difficulty if the CC has already been charged and Disney has to reverse it.

You can save your GC number as a note on your phone and copy and paste it into the payment space whenever you’re charging something to MDE - FP, LLs, ILL$, mobile orders for QS dining - and use the GCs that way. Otherwise those things will be charged to the CC linked to MDE, which can be different from the one your resort bill is linked to.

dont wait for check-out. Charge to room and pay that at the front desk on the evening before check-out. I wouldnt carry gift cards around just in case you drop it

I carried GCs with us then used those for mobile ordering. Had to enter number each time.

We also used for purchases. It was easy to keep track of balances as I kept a sharpie in the small pocket of my backpack and marked the balance on the card.

If you charge to your MB, I would agree with those who say to not wait until checkout. Disney may charge your cc part way through the trip and checkout day all charges normally get charged to your cc in the middle of the night.

It would be easier if you could put a sum on your room to be put towards towards charges and then deduct from that but that feature is not offered at Disney.
