Using Disney Gift card at a Restaurant w/tipping

I heard somewhere that someone used a gift card to pay for their meal and like paying with a credit card, they got the first bill, added a tip which causes the restaurant to recharge the card.

This froze the card and they were unable to use the remaining balance for up to 4 days.

Has anyone had this happen?

I suspect the solution is to use small amount cards for restaurant meals?

(I have a $200 card... would be upset if I couldn't use it for a couple days after a $60 meal)

We used gift cards for food and tip the last few trips and had no issues.

We just got back and used gift cards for food and tip the whole week. Not one issue with it.

You could always charge to your room, assuming you're on site of course, and then pay at the desk w/ the gift card later.

We pretty much always use gift cards for meals at WDW (like feeling like everything is prepaid). We've never had a problem. They bring us the check and we give it back to them, along with the gift card, just like using a credit card at any other restaurant..

I had an issue with being charged a double tip when using my Disney VISA rewards card to pay for supper at Biergarten. I don't fully remember the details, but apparently there's a space on the "charge" slip for the tip, but if you are using a pre-paid card, they also run a separate "tip" slip… or something like that. Anyhow, I must have gotten confused, or the waiter did, and we were double-charged on the tip. Disney reversed the charge but that's when I decided that I would use gift and rewards cards for the bill, but leave a tip in cash (and draw a line through the "tip" line on the bill, and total it for just food and tax charge!).

Same here. We use gift cards all the time for meals and have had no issues. If that happens I would think that the cast members would go above and beyond to try to fix it.
