Using Disney GC to pay monthly dues

I'm starting to stock up on Disney GCs to pay my dues for next year but instead of paying them off in one go like I usually do, I decided I'm going to just pay it monthly instead so I can spread out my money. Just wanted to double check how to do it correctly. First, I have to opt for monthly payments and link my bank account info. Then do I need to go and pay off each month's dues balance by a certain date with my GC? Do I have to do the payment per contract or is it just by the monthly balance? I have 3 separate ones but same UY. Thanks for any guidance!

I purchase target gift cards to get the 5% off, then login to my account, select the correct contract and then apply the gift cards. It’s super easy to do and you can test before finalizing payment.

As above, you do have to pay by contract, but you’re not limited to the amount of the monthly payment. You can pay any amount you want, so we frequently pay more and cover several months of payments, especially when we can buy GCs at extra discounts (e.g., Best Buy has offered them at 10% off from time to time). Once we’ve paid off the year’s dues, we’ll start working on the next, building up a credit balance to start the new year.

One of my friends does this monthly. As @CarolynFH mentioned if you pay more than your monthly amount due it will push out the payment and possibly lower that payment as well. I.e if your monthly dues for contract 3 was $100 and you paid $450 in January it would credit 4 months as paid and in May you would only owe $50 that would come out of your bank account unless you applied another gift card.

I on the other hand just pay off all on contracts as soon as they’re posted. My reasoning is that all these DGC that I have accumulated throughout the year are not gaining any interest and it gives me peace of mind that actual dollars will not be coming out of my bank account in case I forget to apply the DGC.

Unfortunately it seems like the only way to pay with gift cards is to enroll in the monthly payments option with a bank account. If you could enroll with a cc that gives potential points/miles instead I would not be as concerned.

I get your thinking. That's why I usually pay it off in one go. I feel like discounted Disney GCs deals aren't as good lately so I haven't accumulated as much as I usually do. So that has definitely added to my decision to do it monthly and apply as much as I have on hand at the moment when a deal comes along. It is good to know that I can apply more than the monthly amount and it will push the next payment date further down the road. I'll put a reminder on my phone to apply a GC so hopefully that will decrease the chance that $$ gets taken out of my bank account instead.

mine is set up for yearly with a cc. I have about half in dgc to use. could I go in, say now, put them on account, then nly the balance will hit my cc? or do I have to change to monthly, pay what I have then it'll come from my bank. no way to flip back to annual cc?
thanks

I have never flipped back so I'm not sure.
If you do the monthly payments you can make your monthly payment via credit card as well but of course it is also a manual process so if you forget it will get drafted out of your account.

Yes, you can apply the GCs you have now, and it will be held as a credit and applied to your 2024 dues before they bill your CC. Right now we have $400+ credit as a result of Sam’s recent Disney GC sale ($200 GC for $180). As soon as I get the GCs I apply them, so I don’t have to worry about forgetting!

i went online and don't see how to apply them! I thought I had to wait until the bill came out but I'd love to get it out of the way!

Go in to pay by contract and enter the amount you want to pay. When you go to payment method, select new card and the option to use a gift card will appear. Enter the GC information and it will display the balance on the card.

This thread has been very educational for me. Since I've been a member in 2008 I have had dues come out monthly from my checking. Now that I know I can do it manually monthly as opposed to all at once , via gift card, I can now buy discounted gift cards monthly at a discount and apply them. This money would then not come out of my checking that month so it's money I was going to use anyway and all I will "feel" is the savings.

Yes, we’ve saved a good bit since we found this out. At minimum we save 5% using our Target Red Card.
