Using Credit Cards in the US

Looking for your advise. Everytime I try to use my credit card in the states there is always confusion as to whether it's debit or credit, what is the proper verbage to use? I usually ask for it to be put on my Visa but that doesn't work, should I be saying I want it on my credit?

Little thing I know but obviously I'm saying something wrong

It is a credit card. If you say Visa - it could still be a debit card b/c now in the States, MC and Visa have check cards, debit cards, etc. Just say credit.
