Using codes for December...should I book now

to make sure I'll have a room and then wait for codes to come out, hoping that I'll be able to apply them to my reservation? How do you all usually do this?

Yes, book now and have the codes applied when/if they come out.
They may make another ressie for you and cancel the old one when you call back to apply the code.
Sometimes they do and sometimes they just modify. I guess it depends on the resort, or CM or whatever.

I was just wondering this same thing -- for January.

This past year, I had made a reservation at the Dolphin with a discounted rate and thought that when codes were released that I might re-book at a Disney resort and then cancel the Dolphin reservation. After the codes came out, I got a quote from DU for WL but the lowerst rates weren't available for that property.

I was wondering if I would be better off making the reservation at the WL now, at the rack rate, and then DU would apply the codes when they came out, perhaps giving me a better chance to get a good rate.

I wanted to make a reservation with a AAA rate for WL Dec. 16 - 21, but they were all gone except conceirge. In fact the only AAA rates for my time period were for BWI, CR Tower room and WL Conc. so I made rack rate ressie and HOPE :hyper: for an AP rate!! Good luck!!

I would book now at some type of discount rate, such as AAA and keep an eye out for the discounts. This way you have a room already discounted, then when the codes hit, you can call back and just have them change it.

They will only apply the discount to your reservation if they have discounted rooms available for your date, resort and room type. Already having a reservation does not give you an advantage for getting the discount. It may actually hurt because if they see the rooms are full for your date, they may not put any rooms in the system for the discount.

I'll second DebbieB's opinion --- The reason Disney gives us discount codes is because they are trying to fill empty rooms. If all the rooms are already filled, why would they bother to give us discounts!

So if you would only stay at Poly (for example) if they gave you a fabulous discount, and would otherwise just stay at POFQ if forced to pay rack rate - then you might rethink booking at rack rate in hopes of securing a discounted room - it actually works against your advantage.

On the other hand - if you simply MUST have a particular type of room, and don't mind paying rack rate - then go ahead and book it now so that it's available, and hope for a discount later.

That's what I was planning to do. Book the resort and room type we want and then apply codes if they are offered, but be prepared to pay whatever price I book at.

Thanks for the tips. I can see the where Disney will be less likely to release a good code if they already have a lot of rooms booked. I think I am going to wait. We would be happy with several different resorts and we are going at a non-peak time, so I will wait to see which codes are released.
