Using Banked Points

If I have an October use year and bank my points to October 2010. If in June 2011 I make a reservation for May 2012 do they use my 2009 banked points first or are they lost because they aren't being used in the 2010-2011 use year?

You cant use banked OCT 2009 points for stay in May 2012.

October 2009 points banked to 2010 UY are valid for stays

from

Oct 1 2010 through Sept 30 2011

Points used go by date of stay, not date of reservation.
