not an owner yet, but playing with numbers and i confused myself ...:surfweb:

if we banked our 2009 points, (160)
August 1st of 2010, we get our second set

so if i wanted to set up a trip to use the banked points, the curent year points and borrow 2011 pts, when must i travel by so i do not lose my 09' points? ( want to get large room or stay a little longer our first trip "Home")

Do i have to travel before 7/31/10?
how would i work that so we can use banked pts, current and borrow the next years?

thank you

Tina

No, if you bank your 09 points into 2010, then those points will be good from August 1st, 2010 until July 31st, 2011.

So, the 2009 "points" actually become 2010 points - right? on August 1, 2010 - i would have 320 points in my acct.
OK i think i have it now.
Then, how would i get the 2011 pts? - when would i contact MS
to have those advanced into my points act?
Sandisw, you are a wealth of information for me :flower3:

Assume August use year and you want your trip to be between August 1, 2010 and July 31, 2011 and use banked, current and borrowed points:

1. To determine points you use for a trip ignore in your mind completely date you will call to reserve which is always up to 11 months out at home resort. Think only date you will be at WDW.

2. For a trip between Aug 1, 2010 and July 31, 2011, you will need to bank the points coming in Aug 2009 to use them and those would be your banked points for that trip.

3. The points coming in Aug 2010 would be the "current" use year points for that trip.

4. You can if needed borrow points from the Aug 2011 use year for that trip.

Thus, assume Aug use year and trip is Aug 1 to Aug 8, 2010. You call 11 months out from date of arrival, Sept 1, 2009. You bank your Aug 2009 points and use them, also use your "current" use year Aug 2010 points, and borrow any additional points needed from Aug 2011 use year for that trip and you do all that on that one call made in Sept 2009.

When you call MS to make your reservation, they will first determine the # of points you need for that reservation and then look to see when your vacation falls in terms of your UY.

Once that is determined, they will book your vacation using any banked points you have, current UY points, and will borrow points from the next UY if you need them.

Here is an example:

Aug UY, 160 point contract--travel is in January, 2011 and points needed for the vacation is 400.

This trip would take place during your 2010 UY (since that goes from Aug 1st, 2010 until July 31st, 2011).

When booking the vacation, they will use all of the 2009 points you banked, 160, will use all your "current year" 2010 points, 160, and will borrow 80 points from 2011, into 2010 to complete the reservation.

If you had to cancel the trip, at least 31 days out, your banked 2009 points and your borrowed 2011 points would still have to be used up before July 31st, 2011.

However, your 2010 points, since you would still be in your banking window, could be "banked" back into 2011.

It can get confusing, but I am doing when I plan is first figure out what UY my trip will be part of and then work backwards to figure out where the points need to come from to cover it.

I think what get's confusing is that UY overlaps a calendar year. A trip in June of 2009, for someone with an August UY, is actually traveling in their 08 UY, since their 09 UY doesn't kick in until August 1st.

Bank your Aug 2009 UY points no later than March 31 2010
(then they are valid for stays 8/1/10 - 7/31/11)

Aug 2010 UY points are valid 8/1/10 - 7/31/11.

Call for your reservation which will occur between 8/1/10-7/31/11 as EARLY AS 11 MOS BEFORE the check-in date you want at your Home Resort
( ie if you want dates 8/15/10 - 8/21/10 call for ressie on SEPT 15 2009 ).

MS will only BORROW at the time that ressie call is made & only the amount of points you'd need from 2011 UY allotment of points to complete ressie.
