Just wondered what would happen if the finger scan doesn't work when entering the parks? We don't usually carry passports around with us (being from the UK, this is the only type of photo ID we would have.)

Intending buying the passes at Disney Store at MCO - would these already be activated and would they do the initial finger scan there?

The initial scan is done the 1st time you use them.

The only time there was ever any question over the scan is when I had literally worn the pass out:eek:. I was let through and was requested to go to guest services to get a new pass.

When you activate the voucher at the park you will do your initial scan. If, for some reason, the scan doesn't work later then I have been told that you need another ID. My mom, whose fingers are very crooked from arthritis never gets the scan to work for her. She has never been asked for another ID but I think that is because it is so obvious by looking at her fingers that it is the problem. We did start carrying our drivers licenses after that trip because I read on this board that they usually ask for ID. They didn't this trip either but we were prepared nonetheless.

We have AP's and when our finger scan doesn't work we are asked for ID 50% of the time. Make sure you carry some kind of ID--you never know when they will ask for it.

everyone in my family has been lucky and scanned fine....but dh is another story and each time they have asked for id. I would carry an id.....

Thanks for your advice - does it have to be photo ID or would a credit card do just as well - a little easier to carry around than passports. Our drivers licences are not the photo kind.

We are at WDW a lot. The AP entry devices are sporadic at best. Machines at AK work for us maybe 1/4 of time. We are always waved through. Never once asked for ID at any WDW park. WDW really needs to come up with a better system. We understand the need to qualify for AP entry, but these machines are really lacking. We've tried some "experiments." My 30-something DD and I have almost same hand configuration. She can enter with my AP -- making the machine work.
