Using annual pass discounts in a group?

I just made the (rather expensive) leap today, and I am now officially a premium Annual Passholder. I will be arriving for three days at DLR on Sunday with a group of 3 others (who just have 3-day Parkhoppers), and we will presumably be using the AP discounts for various things over the course of that time. I've got a couple of questions on how this works:

-If the others in the group want to use the AP discount, would they be able to use it and pay separately for things, or does everything need to be in one transaction for the AP discount?

-I've heard that there are some smaller food kiosks that don't take the AP discount. Are these listed somewhere?

They have to pay cash, or use a gift card. If paying by credit card, it won't work, since the names don't match. As far as using it for multiple transactions, that might depend on the CM.

As for food places, I know that the Dole Whip stand does not accept AP discounts. Any place that is cash-only won't accept them, either.

There may be some sort of distinction, fully clear only to Disney it would seem, between snack locations and dining locations when it comes to AP discounts. You can't get the discount at the ice cream places on Main Street, the Mint Julep Bar, the place they used to call Catch a Flave in DCA, or the fruit carts or ice cream carts or probably a bunch of the other carts too whether they've been supplied with credit card readers or not. You can get the AP discount at the corn dog cart and a bunch of other places which you can review on the link provided by one of the PPs.

Sharing your AP discount is considered a big no-no. If you, the AP holder, are paying for an entire single transaction though, there is no problem with that.

Just looking at the Annual pass website, I'm a bit confused, I know that the deluxe pass does not give you a discount on merchandise but I don't understand
what 'Most Theme Park and Hotel merchandise locations' means. Its on this page of the website. ( I hope the link works)

Anyway, any explanation would be appreciated. :goodvibes

First of all Deluxe AP's actually are getting a 10% merchandise discount right now, at least through December, because of a special promotion.

Second, "Most Theme Park and Hotel merchandise locations" means just that... There are some places that don't offer AP discounts (mainly the really expensive stuff, like fine jewelry or artwork).

If you are planning on getting a coffee, the water colour customized artwork at one of the carts, a pretzel, or popcorn, you will not get the disc. It applies to around 85% of the food places in DL/CA. If in doubt ask when you place your order. So long as the person with the AP is paying for the group with cash, have nevr had a problem when going to DL with the family, and paying cash w the AP, even at the character meals.

You will not get discounts on the mobile carts, balloons etc. Anything that is cash only you won't get a discount. Also non-disney owned places will also not give a discount (ie the crystal place on main street is not run by Disney).

Best practice, show your AP with every purchase and ask for the discount. If they don't offer one they will tell you.

The fine art and jewelry are almost always discounted (thank goodness!!! Or I wouldn't have as much as I do! ;) ). There are stores in Disneyland that are not owned by Disney. Ex: The Magic Shoppe (Houdini's), The Crystal Shop (The Arribas Bros.). They do not have to offer an AP discount. (At times they have offered it though and at other times they have not.)

I was told by a CM at the GCH entrance that it was a good idea to carry your AP in one of those plastic lanyard case so that the CM's can see them. It worked really well for me. I found that even if I forgot the CM's generally noticed them and I got my discount.

How we always handle it is either my wife our I pay for everything and then they pay us back.

Disneyland is pretty strict with discounts. For your friends to use the discount, they have to give you cash and you have tom pay. Even when you split a restaurant bill, most waiters will only apply the discount to the AP holders split portion.
