Using Air Miles to pay for DLRP

I am collecting tescos clubcard points and these can be converted to Airmiles. I contacted the airmiles people and they said that you can use these to pay for DLRP, but I don't have any more information at the moment. This may be our best chance of another visit now that Leger will no longer be part of the tescos scheme. Has anyone done this? - Is it a good deal?

I was looking into this last week and have converted quite a lot of tesco vouchers to airmiles during the past few days.

In a time before high airport taxes it was a really cheap way to fly - not much cheaper these days.

I was given various quotes for the approx dates I chose of 1st - 3rd August

the quotes are for 2 adults, 3 kids aged 9, 8 & 5

travel by Eurostar - 6020 airmiles

or 430 miles per adult plus £65 & 580 miles per child plus £30

Bearing in mind there are 5 of us I would need 2 rooms if booking into a Disney hotel, I asked for a quote for Santa Fe

2 nights/3 days is 3780 miles per room plus £162 per room
3 nights/4 days is 5650 miles per room plus £171 per room

(for the 2 night quote this would be a saving of £430 on the disney direct price)

Davy Crocket 2 bed bungalow would be 3160 miles plus £502

(this would be a saving of £174)

These quotes all include park passes

I just asked for these to get an idea of what I need to collect.

Tesco has confused me because for the vouchers I sent by post I have been given 80 airmiles for each £2.50 whereas the ones I exchanged online I have only been given 60 miles:confused3

Sorry I know this goes on a bit, but it gives an idea and if you have particular dates and hotels in mind then if you ring airmiles they should be able to give a more personalised quote.

Still desperately trying to persuade DH to go this summer then we can see High School Musical:cool1:

Thanks for this. We are in the same position with 3 children, actually the eldest is now 12 so she counts as an adult? - and so needing two rooms.

Am I right in thinking you can only cover part of the cost with airmiles? The saving for Davy Crocket seems quite small. The deal for the hotel rooms better.

I've just spoken to airmiles again and got a lovely lady called Nicola ext. 8495

She quoted me 2 nights/3days Santa Fe 4500 airmiles plus £568 and 7500 miles plus £412 (these quotes for 2 rooms) but cash price dearer than previous quote - as only making general enquiry I didn't go into my previous quote with her.

I got a quote for Explorers 2 nights for 5 of us 6300 airmiles plus £2, or 4900 miles plus £86 but you have to pay for your tickets. I wouldn't mind staying at the Explorers but was hoping to go in August to see HSM and Explorers doesn't get EMH.

I asked her if there would always be a cash element to pay and she said yes (something to do with the passes) but obviously dependent on number of airmiles being used.

I suddenly feel thats it's getting all too complicated for me to work out!:cheer2:

Did I read this right?
You can get Tesco points, then exchange them for airmiles. But instead of flying you can use them on Eurostar?

I've never used airmiles before as I presumed you could only use them for flying

Yes thats right airmiles are not just for flying.

You can use them for flights, hotels, eurostar, car hire, airport parking, days out at places like legoland etc etc

Look at their website www.airmiles.co.uk

Obviously you need a lot of tesco vouchers but if you keep saving the balance will keep growing and eventually there'll be something you can use them for - the number you need varies constantly depending on demand and availability:cheer2:

This doesn't sound like its worth doing:
6300 airmiles requires £262.50 in tesco vouchers if you get 60 airmiles for £2.50.

With a tesco deal (e.g. with leger at the moment) you get x4 the value which for £262.50 is £1050 to spend. This would cover more than just the hotel!

As others have said this is too complicated...

We have just come out of Tesco Clubcard/Airmiles as we never seemed to find any bargains and as someone else said you Clubcard points go further elsewhere.
