Using A Springform Pan For a Regular Cake?

I'm baking DS's bday cake and I'm making a two layer round cake, but I wanted to make it larger than the standard size round cake. So I went digging through my cupboards and found a large springform pan. Will this work for regular cake mix?
 
It would depend on if it has a very good seal at the bottom. One way to check would be to put water in it and see if it leaks.
 
I would think that it should be ok. I use one for cheesecake and the batter is about the same thickness. I agree that I would check for a good seal.

If the springform is larger (diameter) than a regular cake pan, I would think that the cake wouldn't be as thick and you would have to adjust the baking time.

Okay there goes that idea, the water leaked right out. I think I'm just going to get a cake from Sam's Club ;)
 
Sounds good! Much easier, less messy and they usually have yummy cakes.:thumbsup2

I went ahead and ordered the POTC cake from Sam's. DS will be thrilled! He's having a bowling party, but eh, the cake doesn't have to match I guess! He LOVES pirates! :)
