Using a MAC for CP application?

I seem to remember reading somewhere about problems using a MAC to apply for the CP? It was a while ago......just wondering if those glitches have been ironed out or if they are still a problem?

Tbh, I'm still probably gonna find a Windows computer... at least for the web interview. Don't want to take any chances! lol

I have a Mac but used my brothers PC just in case. Didn't want it to mess up because I was using the wrong computer!!!!

Mine worked fine, but use Internet Explorer for the Mac. Don't use Safari or Chrome or Firefox or anything like that.

Why would it make a difference if you are using Safari? It technically should be compatible with other browsers. It doesn't make technology sense to me, which is why I am asking... and I have a Mac, so wondering if I should find a PC to use for this?

Different browsers are well... different. Up until relatively recently, a lot of sites and features weren't compatible with FireFox (until companies finally realized that 328439208230 people use firefox).

I've heard of people being rejected on the Web Interview because they used Safari on a Mac. A couple people got to redo theirs because they called in, but other people just thought they got rejected and had no idea it was because of the browser they used. I'm pretty sure the application specifically said to use Internet Explorer.

So if the problem's been fixed that's great, but like I said, I'm using a PC/Internet Explorer even if I have to bug my friend to borrow her laptop  lol

Well, if you're paranoid than I guess that's cool. In all of the years that I've been involved with the CP, I've never heard of anyone rejected because they were using a Mac. I think some people just use that as an excuse. If you're using a mac and using the browser IE or Firefox on that mac, you'll be fine. There's absolutely no need to hunt down a PC for interview.

You don't need to look for a PC... just do what they tell you. If they tell you it's only compatable with Internet Explorer, why take a chance on not getting in?

After I got in, I couldn't access the form to accept my invitation on Safari or Firefox, only Internet Explorer.

And I've heard of people who were denied on the web interview because they were using something else. If you call the College Program line, they ask you if you used a different browser, and say that's why it might not have worked.

One of my friends was doing the interview, and it asked them a question, but when they hit an answer and then hit enter, it said "You did not select an answer for this question" but then wouldn't let them resubmit it, it just skipped to the next question. They were worried that would make them not pass it, but it turned out okay.

I was rejected after the Web-based interview too, and I was really distraught about it (especially since I had already successfully participated in the program back in fall 2006). The next day, I couldn't see any reason why I shouldn't be considered, so I called them. As it turned out, I took my WBI on a Mac. However, the Web Based Interview portion MUST be taken on Internet Explorer! The wonderful hiring manager reset the interview and I passed the second time around. Make sure that you're using Internet Explorer when you take the WBI, otherwise it will give them bad results. The second time around, I was accepted!

I know! It was such a bad mistake to require IE. No Macs use that anymore!

Although it's really outdated and unsupported by microsoft, you can still install an old version of IE on a Mac. That's what I did for the CP application, and it worked fine. Google it and you'll find several places to download it.

I think the problem is that when the site says "Use Internet Explorer" some people just brush it off, since a lot of other websites recommend using Internet Explorer for viewing purposes but it works fine still in other browsers. They don't realize that the programming might automatically fail in the wrong browser.

I guess I'm paranoid, but rather I don't see the point in installing an old version of IE just for one application. Especially since I really hate IE! Seriously, worst browser on earth. So yep, using a windows computer ;)

Thanks, ifoceanscollide.........that's the answer I was looking for since we only have Mac's in our household and all use Safari.....sometimes we use Firefox if we must for certain things.

no problem!

I can definitely understand someone wanting to use Firefox instead of Safari because Safari is kinda notorious for freezing up at the wrong moment, but there is absolutely NO reason that someone would need to seek out a PC for the web-based interview. :)

(I'm like you DonnaL, I only switch over to Firefox when absolutely necessary, lol)

Thanks for your input, everyone. I was thinking that it shouldn't make much of a difference, but I DEFINITELY understand wanting to be extra sure of that :)

I would really try to use IE if you can. I can tell you they're not kidding about needing IE. I accidently did my acceptance in Firefox and it got all messed up, I had to have Tech Support help me so I could pay my fee. I had done the WBI on campus right after I did the information session, so the recruiter's stressing IE was still in my head.

There are some forms (and banks) that will only work with IE, it has to do with the coding. Trust me, I hate IE as much as most people (probably more, I've been a Firefox girl for YEARS) but in this instance, you've got to suck it up. It's not worth something getting screwed up just because you're stubborn about using a different browser

apparently, you missed my entire post about how I used Safari and I had no problems with any of it. So.....yea, you're wrong :)

You may have been lucky. I'm just saying that there is a very good reason why Disney requires IE for both the web interview as well as the acceptance.
