Using a large t-shirt as a stroller cover for gate checkin stroller!

We are gate checking our metrolite stroller next month. It's a lighter color so I wanted to cover it to some extent to keep the dirt marks down. I tried garbage bags. Laundry bags, and even thought of sewing a wrap to cover it or just buying a gate check bag... Just don't want to invest $$ in a bag we would only use 1-2 times.

And they all made picking up and carrying the stroller awkward. Then I grabbed an old t-shirt from the drawer and wha-la!!! It fits!! Covers the fabric area (seat n canopy) handle bars... Leaves the wheels exposed and a nice neck hole to grap the handlebar and carry!!! Best of all... Cost me zero in extra spending!!

Although it is the dirt I use to be concerned about, I now use a bag for a little more protection especially after I've had two strollers damaged during flights. My Maclaren Triumph's good was bent beyond repair and my Maclaren quest wheels damaged when they apparently didn't realize they stuck a large piece of cargo on top.

The only thing which would prevent damage such as that mentioned above is a hard sided case, not a fabric cover.

OP, if you only want dirt protection, the shirt sounds fine.

I agree... Most stroller bags seem to be glorified oversized, over priced pillow cases.

Our stroller wasn't a huge investment so although I hope they don't break it on the airplane... It also wouldn't be the end of the world if it did happen. Just want to keep it clean so we aren't strolling with a filthy stroller.

I couldn't imagine lugging a hard case bag enough for a stroller through an airport! Would completely defeat the convenience of a stroller.

I made sleeves for mine that left the wheels exposed; I used rubberbands to secure thick socks over the handles to protect them as well.

The sleeves are ripstop and have elastic at the top and bottom edges, they zip closed. My solution to the damage issue was to wrap my thick carseat backpack around the frame under the sleeve. It solved two problems; carrying the backpack once the seat was removed, and also padding the stroller.

The tips on here are great and I'm going to have to keep these in mind for our baby DD's stroller when we go on our next trip. On our 2011 Disney trip we flew Southwest and took both a Sit N' Stand stroller and Maclaren Triumph stroller and didn't use any type of covers for them and had no issues with them getting dirty or damaged when we gate checked them. On our Disney trip last year, we flew Airtran and only brought our Maclaren Triumph stroller along for DS4 (which he barely used during the trip anyway) and it was so beat up looking after the flight home and the fabric covering the seat of the stroller was ripped up in two areas :headache:. I wanted to kick myself for not using some type of cover but since we didn't cover our strollers on our 2011 trip I didn't think I would need to on this trip. :sad2: We definitely won't let that happen with baby DD's stroller. I am even considering just renting a stroller for our next trip and leaving our stroller at home.
