Using a hiking kid carrier vs stroller

We went with our 3 year old and 1 year old last August and I would not recommend a back pack carrier for a 3 year old. I wore my one year old in a fabric Ergo carrier (you can see it dangling down in my picture) and I almost died from the heat of her tiny body up against mine, and she was pretty sweaty and dehydrated by the end of the day. We rented a stroller for her every day after that. In the Ergo, even with a hat, I couldn't keep the sun off of her, and we were sweaty and sticky all day. Plus carting the extra weight around all day for 10+ hours was ridiculous. We don't take hotel breaks either, during the day, so it was nice to have the stroller because then she would fall asleep and have a good long nap in the shade of the stroller. I couldn't imagine having to haul around a three year old in a back pack all day. Even my three year old loved the stroller because he could just get in and out and we would go at his pace, exploring everything that he though was interesting. He would pass out in the stroller too, and then hubby and I would run the sleeping kids over to CA and find a shady spot have a few beers while they napped ;)

Whatever you do, do not let your kids push the stroller heels have been so damaged at exit and parades because kids pushing strollers.

So true.

Also don't let my husband push the stroller, for the same reason. That man has NO sense of space in front of a stroller. Not even the Volo, which he should have been able to easily see the front of!
