Using a digital camera at WDW

Morning all

I'm just thinking about buying a digital camera in preparation for our trip to WDW in Feb.

The main question I had was about batteries. Knowing that these cameras can eat batteries I was thinking about getting rechargeables. But how would I do this in the States as I think that I can't just plug in my charger in the hotel.

How did anyone else work around this? Or did you just take a big bag of batteries?

You can buy travel plugs for the States either here or at the airport for just a few £££. You plug your charger into the travel plug and then pop that in the wall as usual, though you might find it takes a bit longer to charge than normal.

We did this with the camcorder last year, as Penny said on her post, we plugged it in when we got back to the room and by the time we were ready for bed it had recharged. No problems.

Some digital cameras have lithium-ion type rechargeable batteries (top end Canon for example). These battereis last for agaes and don't have any 'memory effects' that cheaper NiCad batteries have.

If your digital camera takes AA type battereis make sure you get Ni-MH rather than NiCad batteries.

I have a Ansmann Digital Power-Set Traveller model charger. It comes with interchangeable connectors for UK, US, Europe and Australia. It's also compatible with most mains voltages.

It's a bit expensive at £45, but it works a treat

We bought a Sony 5 megapixal camera for last summer, wouldn't recommend it as large numbers of the pictures were out of focus, but we never had any problems with the batteries. One day I took 90+ pictures and the camera still had more than half a charge left. It came with 2 pencell rechargeable batteries and a charger for them.

How many times are you going to go back to Florida? might be worth buying an american, 110V 60Hz charger from some where like wal mart, what ever you do don't go thinking a UK 240v application will automatically work in the states, most won't.

Our charger worked no problem, using an adaptor from the airport, £4-5, which we bought a couple of years ago. We also used our camcorder charger without any trouble using a similar plug adaptor.

I'd like to guess that your camera itself would charge OK using an adaptor, but that your battery charging unit won't.

I think a unit with 4 batteries was less than $10 in Walmart, which is pretty cheap even if neither you nor anyone else you know goes to the USA again!
