Using a cane when loading rides

I will be using an ECV to travel around the parks but will be bringing my cane with me as I cannot walk without it. I can transfer from the ECV onto rides but will need my cane to do so. I know I can keep my cane with me on some rides (Pirates, Spaceship Earth, HM) but know that I can't on others (RnR Coaster, ToT).

I was wondering what would happen to my cane while I am on the ride. Will the CM take it and put it with the ECV until I get back and then hand it back to me? I can probably clambor in and out of the ride vehicles without it but will need it to walk.

TIA for any info. I'm losing sleep over this one.

I saw this post yesterday, but, didn't answer because I wasn't certain. But, since it's still waiting for an answer I'll let you know what I do know.

In general, I think that if you explain to the CM that you need your cane to get to/from the ride vehicle and your ECV they should be able to collect it from you at the end and bring it back as you disembark.

However, in practice the CM may change while you are riding and/or the ride may load and exit in different locations. I know that with my DW, we have had occasions where her w/c didn't get properly moved from the loading platform to the exit and other occasions where it got mixed in with their park inventory chairs while we were on the ride. So, 1 CM knowing isn't a guarantee.

Do you have a member of your party who can take responsibility for going to get the cane if it's not presented to you? If so, I'd likely recommend that you wait until you see them get their hands on it before you begin clamouring out of the vehicle since you said that you can't walk at all without it.

I've also read TRs where people talked about getting a folding cane so that they could keep it with them on all rides.

Hopefully, someone who has had the experiences you're looking for will respond and confirm or correct my info.

Thanks for this info. My DH can get the cane for me if needed. We just weren't sure how the situation was handled. Unfortunately, the folding cane won't work for me as I have one with a four-way base for stability.

Thanks again. I'll hope someone with experience can give more info but will just go with this if I don't hear something else.

My dad used his cane on all the rides when we visited WDW in September, and it was never a problem. He too needs it to get in and out of the ride vehicles for stability. If its a ride when you are not permitted to keep it in the ride vehicle, a cast member will take it right before you depart and will have it waiting in hand when your ride vehicle comes back to the station, so that you may exit safely. Also, for rides where there are considerable amount of stairs, they escorted my dad to an elevator or ramp, so that he didn't have to do stairs with a wobbly cane. Have no worries, Disney is normally very accomidating to its disabled guests as a whole. Enjoy your trip!

When I used a cane along with my own wheelchair, I was able to take it on the boat rides with me to get in and out of the boat when there were no wheelchair boats available and my family didn't want to wait long for one to come around. But, for every one of the other rides the cast member took it from me, and set it by my wheelchair. I don't use a cane anymore due to stability issues.

But, it sure came in handy when we ate at the Mexican restaurant by the old El Rio De Tiempo boat ride. We couldn't get my wheelchair in between the tables to get to our table because the restaurant was extremely crowded when we were there, so we had to leave it outside. I had no trouble using my cane, a quad cane, in the restaurant. It was fairly easy getting from our table, to the restroom, and back out to my wheelchair parked outside.
