Using 3 yrs of points? How does that work?

We have a SMALL GCH contract and would like to book a stay for 2011 that will require 3 years of points. Currently, we only have 2010 points (UY wasn't eligible for 2009 points), and will still only have those when our booking window opens. I know that you can use previous UY, current UY, and upcoming UY points for a stay but is that from the date of your BOOKING or the date of your STAY?

If it's the date of our booking, we're out of luck, right???

Its all tied to the date of your stay. It will need to be in your 2011 UY to allow you to bank your 2010 points, use your 2011 points, and borrow your 2012 points.

As long as your trip occurs within your 2011 use year, you can bank your 2010 points into your 2011 use year and then borrow as many points as you need from your 2012 use year for the stay. It would help if you told us what your use year is, and the month you plan to travel.

The other piece that plays a role in what points you can use (not when you book) is UY.

For example, you mention traveling in 2011, but when in 2011 and when is your UY? I am assuming, since you didn't get 2009 points, its Feb, March or April so as long as your 2011 trip is after you start your 2011 UY, you can used banked 2010, 2011, and borrowed 2012 points.

But, as PP said, everything is based on when you travel. Once you know the UY you are traveling in, then you can always pay for that trip using banked points from the previous UY, current UY points, and borrowed points from the next UY.

For example, I own a June UY. But if I wanted to travel in April 2011, I would not be able to use 2012 points since that trip would still be part of my 2010 UY which runs June 1st, 2010 through May 31st, 2011.

Just remember if you borrow points from UY2012 and they are put into UT2011, then they stay in 2011 and can't go back.

Yes, with a reservation between March 1, 2011 and February 29, 2012 you can use points banked from the 2010 Use Year, points current from the 2011 Use Year and points borrowed from the 2012 Use Year.

If you were planning a trip that spanned across late February, 2012 and into March, 2012 you could even use points banked from 2010, current from 2011, current/borrowed from 2012 and even points borrowed from 2013 - points from 4 different Use Years all for one reservation!
