Uses for duct tape on the cruise?

I've seen that duct tape is on the list of "what to take" -- just curious as to how this has come in handy.... :flower:

Various things from repairing torn suitcases, holding sliding closet door closed, and it's general all-around use.

You don't need to take a whole roll (that would just take up way too much space given the likely hood you will NEED it). You should either look for a miniature roll, or make one your self. Just get a stick (old pen, wooden dowel, broken pencil) and start wraping the duck tape around that so that you have a small little cyclinder of the stuff.

.
I ripped a chunk of the tape off of a Tupperware box I used to tote wine in and used it to tape that dratted safe shut. The door on it has no real handy protrusions that accommodate a bungee cord hook so when the seas got high, I taped it shut. It's also handy for taping to the inside of the stateroom door any little thing you are still using but think you might forget to pack.

Wait. Your safe was open? Wow. I don't remember ours coming open at all, even in cruddy weather. That would stink, that thing clapping back and forth.

Depends on whether you are rooming with the kids

We had it on the closet doors to prevent them from sliding open. Our room hostess saw it and had maintenance come and replace the velcro that held the doors shut. Never knew it was there but I'll tell you we had to yank on the doors after to open them.

I was wondering if anyone was going to include the children list. :)

Well, anyone is a cat 5 or 6 know that they put the TV on the bunk bed side of the curtain, so we used our duct tape to hold the curtain back so we could watch tv while the kids slept on the other side of the curtain.

My husband also used it for a loose hem on his suit pants.

Also used it to tape down the flopping zipper on our baggage. After you unzip to expand it, they zipper flops around, and I did not want it to get torn off on the airplane.

Doesn't it leave a sticky mess when you remove it?? I would hate to be the room steward that had to go around cleaning off duct tape mess. Or, I wouldn't want to be the person in the room after duct tape use if the sticky stuff is still there.

We didn't take it on our last cruise and didn't need it. I guess we were lucky that our closet doors stayed shut.

We didn't take any, nor did we need any, but I can see where it could be handy. We had some rough seas, but never had any problem with the closet doors, and we kept the safe locked, so that door never moved.

I work in TV and we use duct tape all the time for securing cables on live shots. Unless it is left in place for a long time, or is exposed to heat, it can be removed without leaving any sticky residue. And it sticks to just about anything.

It does leave a sticky mess...and can take the finish or paint right off....Your not really suppose to use it on anything other than your own belongings.
