Is there a bad month for a use year?

We are interested in VWL. There have been two listed for sale with a April use year for some time. Is that because most people enjoy VWL in December and are not interested in a April use year??

depends a bit on when you are most likely to travel. You want a use year that gives you plenty of time to bank points, should you need to cancel or change your plans. We have been members for nearly 10 years and had no real choice about our use year. We love to travel in January and December most, so our March use year is theoretically not the best for us. In that length of time we have NEVER had to cancel a ressie and worry about banking points, so I am one who thinks it possibly isn't so important. Now if you are in the habit of changing plans often, it might be important to you.

Use year can be important depending on when you go to DW the most. When we purchased from DVC at OKW it was near sell out and all they offered was December. That turned out to not be a good time based on our visits. Some members say that is not important. It became so for us. We have sold all the December points and bought a contract with an August. That way we can book W & F and T-giving and Christmas season, still be able to cancel and bank all our points.

Use Year has nothing to do with when you can make a reservation.

If you will need to cancel reservations on short notice, Use Year will have an impact on your ability to reuse or bank the points freed up by the cancellation. (If you have an April Use Year and cancel a reservation for March in late February, you would not be able to bank those points and would still need to use them by March 31 or they would expire.)

Otherwise, Use Year is simply the month when your points are renewed each year. There are no January, May, July or November Use Years.

If you will usually travel in the fall - a September/October Use Year would likely serve you well.

Enjoy!

Edited to correct missing Use Years.

I have february use year for my SSR points, i also have a december use year for OKW. The december use year can throw you at first, your thinking december 06 which is my 07 points.

There are Feb use yr contracts listed at the Timeshare Store - did you mean Jan, maybe?

Can anyone tell me why there are no use yr contracts for some months - is it simply due to coincidence that no phases were completed then, or is there a more specific reason?

Keep in mind that you will own DVC for a long time and your "ideal use year month" now vs. 10 vs. 20 vs. 30 years from now will change. IE, DD was 3 when we bought, had no thought about it. Was glad I ended up with Feb. as we were vacationing Feb & April break. Now we have been bitten by the December bug, so I am always nervous with Dec. travel and Feb use year.

Just my two cents

Enjoy

My bad. That should have read January, May, July and November. Thanks for catching it.

DVC has never offered explanation for the missing Use Years. It has been this way since the beginning. When OKW began sales in 1991 - even the first phase (buildings 11-29) lacked those same Use Years. The first building at SSR opened for occupancy in May and BCV opened in July.
