User year question .... please.

OK, I'm all set to buy but I still don't understand why the user year month is such a big deal to some people.
Maybe you could just answer this for me using my case. If I buy now at AKV my uy is June. I only travel in Sept, maybe Nov and Dec works best for us. Will June be a problem for me in any way? TIA

June would be fine, since the points returned to your account from any cancelled reservations would still have time to reused or banked. June, August or September would all work well for trips in September, November and December.

Be aware that your travel times may also change as years go by.

I hear what you're saying about travel times changing and some day they may just do that. But for the next twenty years (I hope) things should stay the same. I own a small Boat and RV dealership in the Northwest and the winter months are my only option for travel. Between Feb and Sept I work 6-7 days a week, kind of like a farmer I guess. Make hay while the sun shines kind of thing.

If your UY is June, you have until January 31 of the following year to bank your points without penalty.

I don't worry too much about cancelling, but I bump into issues with having an Aug UY and banked points. For us, banked points have to be used by July 31. We like to travel in early August and when our points are banked, it forces us to bump our trip back to July or plan another trip we probably wouldn't have taken, as I won't lose the points. If I had a Sept or later UY, it wouldn't be a consideration.

Honestly, though, think through the scenarios of what happens if I cancel and what happens if I bank, and it will all work out great!!!

I've been battling with this myself. I go at various times throughout the year. Most notably Feb, Jun/Jul, Oct and early Dec. I thought April would work, but now June might be the way to go. I think the bulk of our trips will be in the fall or early Dec with every other year in Feb. What do you think?
