What is your opinion/thoughts? Would you use a water flavor packet (Crystal Lite, etc) to flavor your water at a TS?

I would not. I may wind up being in the minority, but I don't see how it's any different than bringing in a can of lemonade/juice. Maybe at a CS, but it just doesn't feel right to me at a TS.

Sometimes. I give the water a 'sniff test' first. If we're unlucky enough to get that 'good ol' Florida water' then in goes the flavor packet. If the water has been well filtered, then I'll drink it straight. Really seems to depend on which restaurant you're at. At least to me.:)

I don't see how its any different than bringing in your own artificial sweetener for your coffee or tea.:confused3

It's different because you are buying the coffee/tea. This is a way of getting around purchasing a drink.

While I'm sure that a very small minority of people might do this for the reason you suggest, I doubt that it is the case in the majority of instances.

I simply do not enjoy the taste of Florida water. But I do require an intake of a certain amount of water every day. I do not add a flavor packet to my glass of water to avoid ordering a beverage at a TS restaurant. In fact we usually order both a cold beverage at the beginning of our meal and a hot beverage with or after dessert. But I also prefer to have a glass of water with my meal.

Do you honestly think there are that many people willing to pay for a TS meal that are too cheap to also pay for a beverage? I prefer to give people the benefit of the doubt. Also, especially at lunch, I see plenty of people who only have water with their meal, flavoured or otherwise. This is personal preference, not cheapness.

I agree that it's not a problem IF you also order a drink, just not ok if you are getting around having to order one in this way. I am also certain that, since it costs around $8-10 for a family of 4, per meal for drinks, that people will do this. Not for a moment meaning to imply that the OP was looking to do this, simply stating my opinion, which I believe was solicited in the opening post.

I like to squeeze 2 lemon wedges in my water (no sugar)- not a fan of lemonade.

not that i do this...but what if ur diabetic or something and u want a lemonade and they dont have it without sugar y cant u bring a packet and add it urself:confused3

Yes! My DD always has just plain water, to save money. She has a low-paying job and is very frugal. But she drinks the water as presented to her. You could call it cheapness or personal preference, DD is calculating the money she has in her weekly budget.

People have been creative in saving $$ since forever. How about the old one where people got a cup of hot water, added ketchup from the table and had tomato soup. Just added the free crackers on top. Or asked for a cup of hot water and added their own tea bag. Or asked for a double cheeseburger and an extra bun. Or took the basket of dinner rolls home in one's purse. It's all been done, but there is no argument that these are naked ploys to save money.

At a counter service venue, pretty much anything goes. At a table service restaurant with wait service and table linens, creating your own free drink out of free water is tacky. Would you bring your own salad in a container and ask for free dressing, too?

Just my opinion. :littleangel:

That's a different situation, not at all what the OP is asking.

You really don't know what the person is asking since they didn't specify. So what about at a buffet? The drink is included but would it be ok to flavor the water then? Does it make a difference.... just being devils advocate.

To be honest we almost always get water in Disney not because of the price but because the thought of a carbonate beverage when it's a 1000 degrees out is enough to make me sick just thinking about it! I do not necessarily like the taste of the water but I need something to keep hydrated and carbonated caffeinated beverages are not the way to go. I also have to say that we make our kids get water as well at lunch (milk or juice with dinner/breakfast) because we feel that they don't need milk when it's that hot out and juice has way more calories and sugar that they don't need when they are drinking multiple glasses mid day.)

POOSie: you make a compelling argument. :sad1:SIGH. I suppose I was naive enough to think that most people flavoured their water (at WDW) simply because the water was so vile tasting. I guess I will now have to limit my water consumption to places other than restaurants. Or switch to drinking something else:drinking1:drinking1:drinking:;)

OP specified a "flavoring" such as Crystal Lite, so it's fair to assume that it's not a health issue. Buffet is different, since as you said (and I stated earlier) it's completely different if you are paying for a beverage.

I ask for an unsweetened iced tea. Or a diet soda, or coffee served black, iced or hot. I do not create my own free drinks at a table service restaurant. As a diabetic, I don't expect zero-sugar lemonade in a restaurant, so I don't think about it there. I order what is offered.

I have packets at home to make zero-sugar lemonade, but I wouldn't bring them with me to a table service restaurant.

Honestly, it would never have occured to me to do this to avoid buying a drink. If I ordrer water it's because I want/need water. If the water is bad, I can either ask for lemon slices to try to make it palatable or I can put in my own addition or sit there thirsty. When I want water, I'm not going to be ordering soda anyway.

I'm spoiled. I live where the water is excellent. DH grew up in the town where there was a spring that they got all their water from. He's even worse. :) If the water is truly awful, we adapt it. (In some cases we do that AND order a soda.)

I lived in Florida for 25 years, and the water is not vile tasting. If you want to use that as an excuse to drink free water enhanced with your own flavoring kit instead of ordering a drink at a sit-down restaurant, have at it. But it's an excuse, not a reason.

Who gives Ratatouille's patootie what you put in YOUR water. I have to stop drinking so much carbonation and caffeine, so sodas, coffee and tea are out. Not a lot of options, so I may take Kool-Aid packets. But I'm on ddp, so the drink is paid for. But so what! Get your noses out of everybody's business and relax. It's not like they're trying to hang around MNSSHP without a wristband.
