My niece recently was engaged. She's visiting us over Thanksgiving and I'd like to give her a gift. I was thinking of a wedding planner, but someone else already gave her one. Does anyone have any ideas? I'd like to give a gift that might be useful in planning a wedding, but am really open to any ideas.

I would've loved a bunch of bridal magazines and a nice card! Or, depending on how much you'd like to spend, we were given a $50 gift card to a nice restaurant. It was nice to go out and celebrate our engagement together.

Yes, those Bridal Magazines are pretty pricey! Maybe a GC to Barnes and Noble so she can pick up a planner or magazines or anything else along those lines.

If you have some time you can do some reseach of websites or stores and maybe present her with your research in a decorated binder? (I don't know how close you are to your niece).

If you have the funds maybe hook her up with an engagment photography session in their hometown?

I'm thinking even just a really nice journal so she can keep her thoughts at this exciting time in her life-it doesn't have to just be for wedding planning!

Get her the Diary of a Mad Bride series...fiction books. They were so hysterical my fi even read them while we were in them midst of planning. Sure it's not a 'useful' gift, but it is a total stress reliever. :rotfl2:

I was going to suggest a gift certificate to a spa--but I like the bridal magazine idea better--get a subscription to one of them even.

Well, based on another, very recent thread here... a book on wedding etiquette? :rotfl2:

Seriously, though - check theknot.com. I'd be shocked if there weren't ideas there for what you want to give.

For Christmas last year my then future-MIL (now just MIL!) gave me a subscription to Brides magazine. It was great to not have to buy them!

And honestly, the best wedding planning tool I had was Google Docs!

Biggest thing I could have used was a kind ear to listen to me and help me out. Instead, everyone thought that ONE conversation per topic was enough, and anything more than that (even when we chose to postpone, and rescheduled in a different season with everything different) was obsessive and boring. (and if you knew my friends and knew our history, you would see that this was unprecedented, as we were big proponents of talking things to death and beyond)

So a kind ear that will never get bored and always be willing to give good advice woud be my personal best and most useful gift!
