Hi, because of these boards I ordered a DDE card before my trip, got a confirmation email and was able to use it. It was just my mom and myself but we got back almost the entire cost in just 4 short days. The card does not expire until the end of Jan 2006 and I have two more trips scheduled before then, so it will be well worth it. All of the waiters and waitresses, except Trail's End, seemed uncertain about the confirmation letter and had to show it to their managers, and only Le Cellier asked for ID, a driver's license.
Our trip was 1/7-1/10 for marathon weekend.
Friday afternoon we split a hamburger platter and got mugs from Food and Fun Court at Contemporary. The burger and fries were typical. It is debateable whether we got our moneis worth from the mugs but I like to use them at home, so it is really part souvenier.
Friday evening, we dined at Ohanas for the first time. We enjoyed it very much and saved $10.00.
Sat morning, breakfast at Chef Mickey's, another first time. It was ok, probably would only go back if I was with kids. We saved $7.20.
Sat evening, we dined at Trail's End, another first, the food was good, it just seemed out of the way. We saved $6.80.
Sun afternoon, fish and chips from Harry Ramsdens. Great as usual, but the fish pieces get smaller every year.
Sun evening, Le Cellier, I love this place and it did not disappoint. We both had the cheddar cheese soup, wonderful as usual, we shared surf and turf special, both the filet and lobster tail were outrageously delicious, and shared a creme brulee for dessert, all I can say is oooooh my! With two diet cokes, we saved $11.20.
Monday am, we had breakfast at Cape May, Goofy's Beach party, another first. We enjoyed this one a little more than Chef Mickeys and would probably go back without kids. The characters seemed friendlier to two adults here than at Chef Mickey's. Again we saved $7.20.
Overall we saved $42.40 in just 4 short days and 5 meals. We always tipped based on the undiscounted total and even more at Le Cellier, because we split the entree.
I just wanted to share my experience because I get some much useful info from these boards. I will try and answer any questions.

Thanks for the great report. The DDE is at the top of my "Gotta know about" list, as we leave in 10 days.

Did you already have your pass in-hand when you ordered the DDE? Can you do this with just a voucher? What info will they need from a voucher?

When I called, all I said was that I was an AP holder (mine expires in Aug) and they took my info, and asked when I was taking my next trip. I gave them my email and had the confirmation letter a few hours later. Have a great trip!

Thank you for the great reviews. It was interesting to see how much you saved with DDE.

So they never asked to see the AP when you gave them the DDE card?

There has been much debate on these boards as to whether you could still use the DDE card if your AP expired.

Thanks for the report. We will be in the "world" a week from today and are just waiting on our DDE email. Nothing is better than going to WDW then saving money while at WDW. :D

could someone explain what a DDE card is? I couldn't find it on the abbreviations board :guilty: thanks!

DDE is Disney Dining Experience. It is a discount card good for 20% off virtually all Disney operated full service and buffet restaurants and lounges (including alcohol), also good at resort food courts, if that resort does not have a full service or buffet restaurant, and most counter service in the AK.

It has only been available to FL residents, but is now available to all AP holders this year for $50, regardless of residence. :)

Thanks for the info. This sounds like a great perk for AP holders! I hope they still have it next year when we get our next APs. :D

Thanks for sharing your experience. I've wondered if it was worth it or not.

I saved a bundle with it back in December. This is one of my favorite offerings!!

Thanks for the report.

DD saved about $70 this week with the card. Mostly Pop food, AK food, and a couple table restaurants. They ate breakfast at Pop everyday and some dinners /latenight snacks like nachos which are pricy.

herc.

aha, thanks for the info, Chuck S. that sounds like a great perk!

WDW Lovr, the only restaurant to ask for any ID was Le Cellier and they asked for my driver's license. Not one server said anything about an AP. Also when I ordered it, the person said I only needed the AP to get the discount on the card, not to use it.
