Use Year when trading through II

O.K. I placed my request in for a Hawaiian Trade for 2005, probably early, but at least I'm in there!!! Anyway, if the trade does come through, what year are the points deducted from? Are they current points? I have a Feb use year, so if they came through before this Feb, would it be my 2003 use year, or would they come from 2005 since that's when I'd be going?

I think it is when the reservation is confirmated - so if you confirmed it this week - it would be 2003 - but don't worry if you need to use those points - I think that MS can borrow for this service.

but more likely it won't come through until II has some weeks in a timeshare that DVC has on its list - so 12 months in advance is pretty good for them - more likely 7 to 5 months before you leave.... of course you may get lucky - I hope so.

Unless you listed Kona Coast, you can expect a year or less, usually a lot less. KCR can easily be 2 years out. Which points you use are up to you as long as they are available at the time you accept the match. You may not be able to use current use year points within the last 60 days of your use year though. I actually haven't asked them the question about which points they use under the new system. My assumptions would be that you could use any points you could use to make a reseration at the time of the actual confirmation. This would include current use year points if not in the last 60 days. Next use year points if you are within 11 months. You can also use banked or borrowed points during the current use year or next use year. I'm sure all points will need to be in one use year.

I have seen one report of DVC not taking the points out right away and actually floating the points for a few months. If I recall, this was someone who exchanged for more than a year out. I don't recall it being a situation where they didn't have the points, just that DVC didn't take them for a while.
