Use Year Question

I’m wondering if there are certain use years that are less/more available at certain resorts? I’m asking because I’m considering the idea of purchasing at 2 different resorts, but I don’t want to get stuck having a hard time finding contracts in the same UY.

I have looked at current resales, but because I just started looking, I have no idea if what I’m seeing, UY distribution wise, is normal, or just happens to be what’s available right now.

There are absolutely some UYs more popular than others. Across all DVC resorts, December, February, June and August are the most popular UY (in that order), though not all resorts follow that pattern.

This is as of February 2018 but gives a good understanding of UY but is missing RIV and most of CCV:

You’re welcome! It’s a chart I wish I had seen when I bought in, as I bought a Sep UY which is the least popular UY (8.6% overall; 7% at AKL and 10% at BRV). I probably would’ve gone with August had I seen this first.

It's tremendously helpful - I was actually figuring August myself, even though one of the resorts I'm considering doesn't have the best availability then. It seems most of the others do, though, and it's a good UY for me in terms of my travel habits, so I figure if the one off resort is meant to be, an Aug contract with the right price will appear.

Just FYI, it’s not so much that certain UY are more popular than others in terms of being chosen by buyers. Usually the Guides are being told to sell a given UY and won’t offer another unless the buyer asks - and most buyers don’t have sufficient knowledge to ask.

Interesting- what reason does Disney have for doing that? I wouldn’t have thought UY would matter much to them.

I don’t think Disney has ever said, and no one here has figured it out.
