I am in the process of becoming a DVC member through resale so don't have my packet yet. My use year is September. If I want to plan a trip in September 2011 do I need to have the points in 2010 or would I technically be borrowing them from 2011's points if I wanted to book in say March 2011. Basically I'm asking if I need the points to "book" a vacation. I might be using my 2010 points for a trip in February 2011. Hope this isn't too confusing.

*use year has nothing to do with when you call to book. you can call 11 months in advance to book your home resort, or 7 months in advance to book other DVC resorts.

*your sept 2010 UY goes from sept 1, 2010 to aug 31, 2011 - so booking feb or march 2011 (which is in your 2010 use year) would allow you to use current 2010 pts, banked 2009 pts and/or borrowed 2011 pts.

*a trip in sept 2011 would be in your 2011 use year - so you could call in october 2010 to book your home resort with current 2011 pts, banked 2010 pts and/or borrowed 2012 pts.

more info on use year is here if you want it:

Thanks, that is what I thought but I read some place that you had to have the points in your account before you could book, but maybe they were referring to the first time when you are just setting up your account.

probably just that, yes.

once you're a member, you just need to have some combination of banked/current/borrowed pts that can be used for a stay in that use year.
