I am new to Timeshares and Can not figure out how to pick my Use year. I know it ties back to when you can book at your home resort (11 months out). The times we generally travel to Disney is April, May, Nov or Dec. What would should we try to get for a use year?

When we joined we picked the use year that was closest to when we normally travel (i.e. we normally travel in NOvember/December so we picked October). Reason for that is that if something happens and we can't take the trip.........we have until May to decide how to reuse the points (i.e. whether or not to use them or bank them to the next year. You have to decide on banking, etc. within the first 8 months of your use year.

Let's say for example my use year was January and I normally travel in November, my banking window would close before my normal travel time (as the banking window would close in August. If something happens and I can't go on the trip.........I'm stuck with using the points in that year.

Just my thoughts

It does not tie back to when you can book home resort. You can go any time of year and you can always call 11 months in advance for home resort and 7 at others regardless of when your use year is. Use year has relevance only for banking and the possibility of having to cancel a ressie -- you can bank points up through the eighth month of use year into next use year. Thus, if you always schedule trips to occur near end of use year, you risk not being able to bank if you have to cancel that ressie. Many thus recommend having a use year that starts before but somewhat close to when you usually go each year. In your case, because possibilities are almost throughout whole year, it won't make much difference but Sep or Oct would be somewhat better for you than others.

Thanks... Besides Banking is there something else I should consider for use year decision?

Is there a list somewhere that shows the Use Year banking/borrowing dates based on each month's Use Year?

Thanks! (I don't mean to steal your thread :) )

I would consider the other side of banking, too. We generally travel in Aug, so I purchased an Aug UY. If you bank points, though, it STINKS. We have been forced to travel in July, because if we didn't, our points were going to expire.

For us, which is definitely not everyone else's situation, we have never cancelled a vacation. However, we have moved our vacation because of our UY. My husband teaches, so we travel during his time off (spring break, June/July/Aug, and sometimes Christmas). If I had it to do over again, I would choose a Dec UY. I would have through July to bank, and if we banked we would be able to use banked points when we normally travel. When the points expire wouldn't impact our travel plans.

Just think through when you travel most of the time, and think through the options. Best of luck!!! :thumbsup2

Banking deadlines are 8 months from the UY. So, February UY would be banked by the end of September, March UY...then end of October, etc.

I am not sure what you mean by "borrowing" dealine. You can make a ressie 11 months before you go at your home resort, 7 months at the other resorts. If you book a reservation and don't have enough current UY points, they will "borrow" points from your next UY.

However, once the points are borrowed to make the reservation, then they must be used in that UY...they can't be put back if the trip gets cancelled.
