Use Year Question

Okay I thought I had figured this whole thing out but now I am not sure.


We have just received intial contracts for a resale of 80 OKW points with a Feb UY.

We normally travel in Sept thru Dec.

Am I making a mistake with a Feb Use year.

What kind of problems may I encounter (if any) and what benefits (if any) would I have with a Feb use year.

I am having the same issue; I should get my paperwork soon with a Feb UY, We will travel Oct-Jan and in May. February seems like the worst possible UY with the booking deadline on Sept. 30th. On the other hand, we don't have kids and we are very flexible with when we can travel, so I don't know if this would really be a problem.

If I talk to my Guide and insist on a different UY, I might not be able to get Jambo House and no 2008 points. On the other hand, a May UY, which would come with Kidani would be perfect...

I just can't decide!


popisme, will you still travel during the same time as your daughter gets into school? If your travel plans will change at all, Feb is perfect for travelling during spring and summer breaks.

It's best to have a UY that is just prior to your favorite vacation dates. Our UY is Oct and we vacation Nov - March. You only have the first 8 months of your UY to bank any unused points. If you don't bank them you have to use them before the end of January or you lose them.

What happens if you have a Dec vacation planned and you have to cancel because of illness. You have to use the points in January or lose them.

The December vacations may be a problem. Remember UY is only a factor if you cancel a reservation. They have nothing to do with when you can call to make a reservation. To be 'completely safe" your UY should be no less than 3 months before your travel dates. If with a FEB UY, you run the risk of losing your points if you cancel a DEC trip on short notice. If you cancel a vacation in DEC you would have to use your points bu JAN 31st or lose them. You do not have the option of banking them for a trip at a later time.

P.S. A FEB UY is that your summer vacations are always safe in case you cancel and yeach year you get your points at the begining of the calender year. It is confusing having a late UY like NOV or DEC. For many members today is still 2007 and that gets tricky for remembering banking and cancelation deadlines.
