My husband and I are in the process of buying into DVC. My question is if I get a february use year, do we still get points for 2010 and in february get points for febr 2011? Or do we not get any points until February 2011?

Will it be better to get a September use year since we are in October already?

Thanks
Dawn

Assuming you are buying directly from Disney, you should get 2010 points even though February 2010 has passed because that 12 month UY is still in progress. You will pay prorated MFs for the 2010 points. The banking deadline for the 2010 Feb UY just passed but supposedly they will bank the points after the deadline for a new purchase, or you could use them through the end of Jan 2011.

Do you travel to WDW at the same time each year? It is nice to have a UY that begins just before the month(s) you normally travel so that if you have to cancel you still have time to bank or use the points later in the year. Keep in mind that the best UY today may not be the best UY for you in the future if your preferred time of year to travel changes. Ultimately UY does not matter if you never cancel or postpone trips.

We normally go in September, but our Anniversary is in Februaury and I know we would like to go somewhere for our anniversary sometimes. We are going through Disney because they gave us a good rate similar to the asking price of a resale we were looking at. In your opinion should we do an August used year, since we plan to go in September? We normally take trips in late february/ early March and Late August/ early September?

Either Feb or August would work for your scenario, so choose the one nearest to when you will be traveling the most. If more of your trips would be in Aug/Sept, choose an August use year.

I agree with PP. August or February will work for the travel you mention. With August, you have until March 31st to bank points. With a February UY, you have until September 30th every year to bank points.

The only thing I might also consider is your lease likely time to travel. For example, if you don't ever see yourself traveling in the summer but might want to at the holidays, I might go with August UY as Feb UY is not ideal for holiday travel.

We chose June UY because we travel in August but at some point will travel in the fall/winter. The one time that would be very unlikely is spring.

Good luck!

When we purchased, we got the points for both years. I think there is some negotiating involved.
