Use year question-Now I am very confused...

I was under the impression that the best use year would be one shortly before you normally plan to vacation. If we normally vacation in March or May, I have assumed that February would be an ideal use year. However, now I am confused.

Example,
Assume I make reservations in April of this year 2001 for March of 2002 at the 11 month window. I plan to use the points I acquire in Feb of 2002 to take the March 2002 trip. If I have to cancel at in say Jan of 2002 if one of my kids get sick, do I still have the opportunity to bank or use all of the points I would be receiving in Feb 2002. It is my understanding that I could then have the opportunity to bank those points until July of 2002 or use them by Jan 31, 2003. Am I correct?

Also, when I call in April 2001, are the points I am using to make the reservation considered borrowed points since I will not be receiving the points in my account until Feb 2002?

Sounds like you do have it all figured our correctly. A Feb use year would serve you well. The points- if cancelled for that March trip, could still easily be banked.

IMHO, use year is an overrated concern. The only time it would likely affect anything is in a scenario as you describe when you are cancelling on short notice. Otherwise, it is merely the month when your points are renewed. Enjoy!

Use year is somewhat inconsequencial. You hopefull, would have little to worry about with cacelations.

Also, remember that the points you are using for a ressie are for the year the ressie is for, not the year it is made.
