Would someone give me their opinion or share their experience with the insurance that is offered when you call member services?
It's a simple, often low-cost option for insuring trips. Really depends upon how many years' points you will be using since the charge is for every Use Year.
But if you're considering the insurance, you would be wise to read all of the policy terms and understand exactly what you are buying. In terms of the accommodations, the
DVC-sponsored insurance will only reimburse you the maintenance fees on any points lost. Given that you can cancel up to 24 hours before arrival and still retain use of the points, it would take rather extraordinary circumstances in order for a loss to occur.
Compensation is offered for travel delays (weather, etc.), lost luggage, reimbursement of airfare if trip must be cancelled, and so on. But every
travel insurance policy is different. Depending upon the circumstances which have you contemplating the insurance (sick relative, general protection, etc.), certain policies may be better fits than others.
Don't just assume that it's blanket coverage, and that the insurer will send you a check if anything happens between now and your travel dates. Again, read the policy first and make sure you are comfortable with the terms offered.
