Use Year for two contracts

Planning ahead here...

I have August use year at Riviera. Looking to potentially add points via resale, which can’t be used at Riviera, and so the booking window for all other locations would be at 7 months except new resale home resort.

Should I try and stick with August use year on resale contract to keep things simple? Or look for another use year (offset 4 months??) so all points are available at resale home resort at 11mo?

If you think you’d ever want to combine points and use those RIV points with your resale points, it is far easier if they have the same UY. You can’t use Resale at RIV but you can use RIV with resale.

I’m confused by the bolded part. Are you under the impression that by having a December UY for your resale resort, you would some how be able to combine those points with August RIV points at 11 months to make a reservation? It doesn’t work that way.

Will you only use the Riviera points at Riviera? If not, keep the same use year.

Suppose you needed just 6 or 7 more points to make a reservation at BLT? It will be much easier to book if your Riviera points are the same use year as your resale points.

As others have posted, even though you can't use the resale points to book the Riviera, you can use the Riviera points to book at all the other DVC resorts.

Interesting question. But remember UY has nothing to really to do with the 11 month home resort perk. You can’t combine multiple resort contract points in a single reservation until the 7 month out bookings. Can book from both contracts at 11 months, doing a two reservation split stay. (Fun option). Juggling different UY’s comes into play more for banking deadlines and cancellations. UY isn’t a factor when booking a reservation at either 11 or the 7 months. Rather your booking date will fall into a UY of your contracts for point usage. Example: You have your August Riviera UY and bought an October resale UY contract at a different resort. You are on the website in February 2021 looking at booking a large points reservation at the resale resort, combining your contract points for a September 2021 reservation. The points would be used from your August 2021 UY and your October 2020 UY (not its 2021, not booking in that UY yet).

I guess I was referring to having all points on both contracts available to transfer vs. two reservations. Granted, I’m still trying to figure things out, but I understand the use year - just wondering how things would work with two contracts..

You can transfer once per UY. Once transferred the points still retain same booking rules And banking deadlines as if they never were.

So, if you transfer Dec UY points into an Aug UY, you need to make sure they are valid for trips based on their own status.

Since you can not transfer banked points or borrow them once transferred, it can make it tricky.

Two UYs works best if you want to travel during different times that allows you to still be in the banking window for all trips and are going to book as though it is the only one.

I have 300 points in my Dec UY with SSR and BLT and then 475 in my Aug UY with SSR and RIV. I pretty much never combine and if I do, I split stay it and just ask it be noted so we don’t change rooms.

Would APR UY for 2nd contract work better if travel patterns stay the same? What are the drawbacks, other than whats been mentioned previously?

If May trips became a regular thing then yes, it would. I have Dec and Aug UYs now. Orgiannly it was June and then I wanted to travel in May so I added Dec UY.

Now it’s great because I can simply use my SSR Dec UY for April to July trips and over lap into August.

My BLT Dec UY points are for Dec and my RIV Aug UY are for Food and Wine and Dec as well.

The rest are SSR in both UYs so I can supplement nights/days or book larger rooms at resorts of choice the other times I travel.
