Use year booking question

You would think I would know the answer to this, being a member for 11 years, but apparently not. I need to book next week for F&W 2014. My use year is October. I have almost all of my 2013 points currently in my account, but I am hoping to use those for the Manhattan Club in summer of 2014. So, if I book online next week for October 2014, which use year will it pull from?

I am still unsure on the MC next summer, but if I don't do that, I will probably rent out my 2013 points, so I am hoping when I book online, it was use the 2014 points since that is the period I am booking?

I expect you will use the October 2014 points. Your 2013 points would expire at the end of September if you don't bank them, so they can't be used. You might want to talk to Member Services and specifically state that you don't want to bank your 2013 points, just so they don't try and be proactively helpful when they make the reservation.

eta: if you're doing it online, I would expect it to tell you at that time which UY you'll be using. If it doesn't, or it tries to take the 2013 points, I'd pick up the phone and call to make the reservation. If at all possible, I'd refrain from letting it make the reservation with the 2013 points thinking you can then contact Member Services to "fix" the issue -- but I'm more than a bit paranoid about such things, to be honest.

The date of stay is in your 2014 use year, so you can used banked 2013, current 2014, borrowed 2015. If you don't bank 2013, you can't use them for 2014 use year.

I understand that, I am just wondering what use year it will use when I book online. Does it ask you which points you want to use? I've never had previous years points available before when I booked online. 2013 will not be banked, at the time I make the reservation next week.

When booking online it will go based on the UY of the trip...so, as mentioned, you can use banked 2013, 2014 and borrow from 2015 since your trip will be in your 2014 UY.

If you have NO banked 2013 points at the time of the booking--ie: you have not banked them yet because you are saving them for a future booking in your 2013 UY--then it will use up your 2014 UY points first and borrow from 2015 if there were not enough 2014 to cover the trip.

The system can only pull from points that are eligible for the trip--since your 2013 UY points will not be eligible when you book, there is no risk that the system will be using them.
