DH's family are coming with us to WDW in October, and we'll be staying in OKW and VWL.

If they should decide they want to buy into DVC once they see what it's all about ;), when would be the earliest they could stay on points if they used the MB programme (assuming it's offered)?
Would all use years be available to them, or would they only have access to later UY as we'll be there late in the year? I'm unclear how the allocation of UY works.

They may want to return to WDW next Easter, so could MB be a viable option for them if they sign this October? Would they be able to borrow points if they used MB?

No matter what, they're going to have to borrow if they use MB. I'd advise them to get the earliest use year they can when they buy in. The earlier the use year, the sooner their points will be replenished, or borrow-able in this case. Because BCV isn't open yet, it's a different situation than most of the other resorts have been. DVC can't technically give you points for a use year that comes before the resort opens, so the first available use year for BCV is June 2002. If your relatives were to get that, they could sell points back using MB and wouldn't have any available until June 2003, but they could borrow from those 2003 points for their Easter trip as soon as their contract closed.

Someone please correct me if this is wrong, but I'm pretty sure this is how it works.

Another thing I'd advise is to consider MB carefully. We considered an add-on at BCV using MB but opted not to. In our situation it made no sense as we wouldn't get any points from that purchase for almost a year and a half. You really have to look at whether the $5 is worth it. For instance, on a 200 point purchase that's $1000, or if you finance, $14-30 a month. Is that savings worth it if you're going to be in a long-term borrowing situation? You may be better off just skipping it, OR renting those points themselves the first year and likely making more than $5 per point that they could then put toward the purchase price, dues, etc.

Hi Hilary,
We added on at BCV on our last trip (this month) and the only incentive was $5 per point as WDWg says that is too little to bother with, even our DVC guide advised us not to bother and to bank the points!
Not sure what use year you would get as ours is obviously the same as the rest of our contract.

When I bought, the earliest use year you could get with magical beginnings was after the 100% banking deadline. So if they buy in October, the earliest they could probably get is June. They started selling BCV with February 2002 use years.

The buyback is $5 per point but you pay $3.71 per point in dues, so you are practically giving them away. One thing to consider is you don't have to sellback all your points. If you bought 300, you could sellback 150 and bank or use 150. That way you could still get some use out of your first year points and still get a credit.

Thanks, everyone - that's made it much clearer for me :)
