We are at Disney right now and about to add on 100 points at BLT. Getting a pretty good deal we think. One of the good things is that we would be eligeble for 2009 points if we go with a different use year.

We currently have a Feb Use Year and would get a Dec use year. I REALLY WANT THOSE 2009 points and DVC said the only way to get them is to have a different use year which they do not recommend.

Is this really a big deal? Know that I am a planner and the "nerd" of the family when it comes to all of this stuff.

I have both Feb and Dec UY's. As long as you are mindful of when each needs to be banked then it is no big deal! :thumbsup2

Just be advised I have come across numerous sellers at The Timeshare Store, Inc.® who are selling one of their contracts simply because they own two different use years. Most owners want to keep everything with the same use year although there are many owners who own many different use years. I am sure you will be getting lots of feedback.

That's strange I have been told by my guide, albeit a long time ago that any addon contracts purchased direct had to have the same use year.
Is that only if it is at the same resort, or have things changed?

We have 2 UYs and would never reccommend it. Yes it can be managed, but it is extra work and it increases the chances of a mistake by yourself or Disney.

Your "free" points are worth $1000, not worth the the extra work to me. :goodvibes

Remember, different UY is a different membership. Those 100 BLT points can not be combined with your other points for a single night reservation without a transfer.

You can certainly book some nights with them and book your other nights with your other contract and link them, but it is not as easy to use them as when they are under the same membership.

We had two UY's for a short time and I realized that I didn't own enough points in either contract to book my typical trip at 11 months without borrowing, which I did not want to do. I ended up selling and now own all BLT points with the same UY.

If you go with the different UY, make sure the 100 points will be enough to make the reservation you want with them.

This limitation is really a big obstacle to having two use years in my opinion.
That requirement to do a points transfer (once a year only) really limits the flexibility of your two contracts.

as others have implied, it's not technically an "add-on", it would be a new membership if it has a new UY month. (but now that DVC is offering 50-100 pt new memberships, it can get confusing - yes.)

Man, I am really bummed. I never heard of this issue until I saw disneynutz positng in another thread. I just signed the contract on a 50pt AKV to use as an addon to my SSR.... they have different UY!
Aaargghhh! Man I wished the selling agent would have mentioned something, but I guess there are so many variables that it would be hard to explain all the nuances.

I will call first thing Monday but I may just be out of luck (may be worth losing the $500 deposit)

Just goes to show you, no matter how much you research, there is alwys more you need to learn. Thank goodness for all the folks here on DIS!

Was a a direct buy or resale?

It is a resale.... when I talked to my DVC agent about a direct buy, he would not even consider selling me any UY but the one I already had. He didn't say why, but made it clear he would only do an Oct.

So .. Please confirm if I have this right.
I had no idea of this.. before..

I was thinking of a resale BC, (but no June UY currently available). If I go with a Sept BC contract, and my current contract is SSR June. If I book at 7 months out, I cannot use the 2 different on the same night reservation. Is this correct?

If so, I may need to buy direct to get the UY I already have.
... That may change my mind on it..

:confused3

Right now you will probably have to buy BCV direct anyway because Disney is currently buying up all of the resale contracts.

Thank you SOOOOOOO MUCH. This gives me a little hope.

If it is correct I cannot mix nights on points. I must re-think the BC without the June UY.

I thought about buying direct, and I cannot justify 115$ for BC expiring in 2042 with BLT 108 expiring in 2060. Resale "price/value", and time left BLT should cost more. I cannot financially justify more $$ for less value and less years there. So if I cannot get a resale BC, I will probably either skip buying or buy resale SSR. :confused3 .. I will keep in tough with the resale person I deal with and see what happens.

I do so LOVE all the help DISboards-ers are. My vacations would be so frustrating and different without Dis.
TY TY TY :beach:

in order to mix pts from 2 contracts for a single night (at 7 months), you would have to transfer pts from one contract to the other prior to booking.

this will most likely use up the once-per-year transfer for both contracts.

you can still (at 7 months) book 3 nights with one contract and 4 nights with the other, if that would work...

I'm relatively new to the DVC world, and considering buying BCV resale and maybe BLT resale or direct. Please make sure I understand correctly - if we get the same UY, will they be considered as the same contract? Does one have to be purchased direct from Disney in order for them to be "aligned" as one contract/membership?

Thanks so much for all the help you are all providing! As another poster had stated, just when you think you know enough......there's always more to learn. DH and I were just going to pull the trigger on a resale, now we need to rethink a few things (again)!

If you are purchasing contracts from Disney and resale, you will need to be sure they are titled EXACTLY the same and also to let DVC know of the resale purchase. If they are all the same Use Year DVC will be able to include them in the same membership number. Otherwise, they will have different membership numbers.

We have had as many as 4 different membership numbers at 2 different resorts with 4 different Use Years and have had no problems tracking and using the points. It can easily be accomplished without major problems, so don't be swayed by suggestions to the contrary. It does require some additional attention, but can be easily managed to get full benefit of the points. We have been members since 1993 and have never lost a single point due to expiration with well over 1,000 points.

Enjoy! :)

Thank you for the explanation & reassurance WebmasterDoc!!!!!! I'm a planner and a worrier, so I tend to over-think things. Thanks for relieving much of my anxiety!
