use of holding points?

My sixty day window is due to open next week. I have 34 to use up. Is this doable: cancel the first two nights of the trip (or the final two), rebook immediately using up the holding points, then link the two ressies. I don't want to change rooms for the entirety of the trip.

Figuring this will free up my points already in the ressie for banking.

Otherwise, I will cancel and rebook a two bedroom at ssr to use up the points. TIA.

Make a separate booking at the start if possible using up the points. Then call MS and have them cancel the corresponding days, freeing up the points that will not be holding account points. If you can't use the reservation for the initial days, take any you can and let MS fix it for you on that end.

I don't think I can do that b/c I only have 34 points left (they are holding). One night is 29 points, I believe. I would have to cancel two nights, use the holding points, plus a few of the points associated with the cancelled reservation. I think you are suggesting this, so I don't lose those nights, should someone else come a long and book them.

If there is availability, ask for a "team line" CM, and have them reallocate the points.

i would not count on being able to rebook that specific room with holding pts. there would need to be another room available for those nights (or it would defeat the limitation of holding pts).

Exactly. You should not be able to reallocate with holding points otherwise they are no longer holding points and are regular points.

It would be like reallocating non-home resort points at seven months out for home resort points on a reservation made at 11 months out.

You'd need enough points to do so certainly.

That's what I'll do. Hopefully there will still be availability. Do you think I'll be able to keep the same room for the entire stay if the ressies are linked?

Basically it's an accounting issue. The reservation currently exists and if there is availability, TL CM shouldn't have any issue reallocating points versus canceling days and booking days. The processes are different but the end result is the same. Cleaner to reallocate.

On another note, most MS CMs do not have the ability to hold inventory while they are canceling and re booking. Only managers and TL CMs have that ability.

This is great to know. I ran into this yesterday while making a reservation for GF. There was only one one bedroom left and the CM asked me if I was sure I wanted to modify my reservation because the room might be lost while we were working on the reservation. My borrowed points would already have been moved and I might have been out of luck. Now I know to ask for a TL CM to deal with the issue should it arise again. Thanks.
